Intelligent prediction of slope stability based on visual exploratory data analysis of 77 in situ cases

Guangjin Wang et al.

Summary: Based on the analysis of 77 field cases, this study selects five quantitative indicators (slope angle, slope height, internal friction angle, cohesion, and unit weight of rock and soil) to improve the accuracy of slope stability prediction models. The data aggregation and visualization of slope stability prediction are conducted using six-dimensional reduction methods, and seven prediction models are established and evaluated using random cross validation. The results show that random forest, support vector machine, and k-nearest neighbor algorithms achieve the highest prediction accuracy (>90%), with slope height being the most significant factor influencing slope stability. Random forest and support vector machine models exhibit the best accuracy and superiority in slope stability prediction, providing a new approach for geotechnical engineering.

Generating Slip Surfaces Using the Logistic Function Integral

Qi Xie et al.

Summary: Efficiently generating slip surfaces is crucial for slope stability analysis. Traditional approaches rely on the geometric features of slopes, leading to complications and lack of smoothness. This study proposes a method using the integral of the logistic function to generate arbitrary slip surfaces, transforming the problem into parameter selection. The function's continuity and differentiability ensure smoothness. The impact of parameters on slip surface patterns are investigated, and a procedure for producing arbitrary slip surfaces is developed.

Based on multi-algorithm hybrid method to predict the slope safety factor--stacking ensemble learning with bayesian optimization

Summary: The safety factor is a critical indicator for evaluating slope stability. However, inaccurate calculation results are often caused by excessive assumptions and insufficient consideration of influencing factors. To improve the accuracy of slope safety factor prediction, a Stacking ensemble learning model with Bayesian optimization (BOP-Stacking) is proposed. A new perspective on determination of the critical slip surface of three-dimensional slopes

Summary: The traditional slope stability analysis method fails to determine the true critical slip surface (CSS) when the minimum safety factors (SFs) of different CSSs are equal or extremely close. This paper proposes a new approach that considers the slip surface with the maximum sliding direction (SD) as the CSS and uses genetic algorithm to search for its location. The validity of the proposed method is verified through analysis of benchmark slopes and a practical engineering case. The findings indicate that a larger SD results in a smaller SF. This developed method provides useful support for determining CSS and the shape of 3D slope.
