Experimental and numerical investigation of the thermal performance of impinging synthetic jets with different waveforms

Pushpanjay K. Singh et al.

Summary: This study experimentally and numerically analyzes the thermal performance of circular synthetic jets using sinusoidal and triangular waveforms. The variables studied include Reynolds number, axial distance, stroke length, and driving frequency. The results show that the triangular waveform synthetic jet has 11% higher heat transfer compared to the sinusoidal waveform. Synthetic jets also exhibit 38.6% higher thermal performance than continuous jets in the far-field region. A correlation for the average Nusselt number is proposed.

An experimental investigation of the flow-field and thermal characteristics of synthetic jet impingement with different waveforms

Pushpanjay K. Singh et al.

Summary: This experimental investigation examines the flow and thermal behavior of electromagnetically actuated circular orifice synthetic jet with sinusoidal and square waveforms. The study focuses on the influence of Reynolds number, dimensionless axial distance, and excitation frequency on the thermal performance. The results show that the average Nusselt number is higher for the synthetic jet with sinusoidal waveform compared to the square waveform. However, in the stagnation region, the square waveform exhibits higher heat transfer. The flow dynamics and velocity profiles explain these variations in heat transfer rate.

Experimental investigation of flow and thermal characteristics of synthetic jetissuing from sharp-edged orifices

Pawan Sharma et al.

Summary: This experimental study investigates the flow and heat transfer characteristics of a synthetic jet from a sharp-edged orifice. The study explores the effects of orifice opening angles, Reynolds number, jet-to-surface spacing, and orifice thickness on the flow and heat transfer. The results show that the heat transfer rate is influenced by the orifice thickness and opening angle, providing valuable guidance for optimizing the geometric parameters of synthetic jets.

Numerical investigation of the flow and thermal behavior of impinging single and multi-orifice synthetic jets with different waveforms

Pushpanjay K. Singh et al.

Summary: This article presents a numerical investigation on the thermal and flow characteristics of single and multi-orifice circular synthetic jets with different waveform shapes. The study reports the influence of various parameters on the thermal performance, such as pitch ratios, surface to nozzle distance, and excitation frequency. The results show that the synthetic jet with a triangular wave pattern exhibits higher thermal performance than sinusoidal and rectangular wave patterns, and the multi-orifice synthetic jet has higher heat transfer compared to the single orifice synthetic jet under certain conditions.

Effect of orifice shape on impinging synthetic jet

Udaysinh S. Bhapkar et al.

Summary: This experimental study investigated the flow characteristics of synthetic jets emitted from different orifice shapes. The results showed that the wall jet from the elliptical orifice had higher energy-containing vortices and a delayed self-similarity compared to other orifice shapes. The elliptical orifice also had relatively higher normal and shear stresses. In addition, for a larger nozzle to surface spacing, the rectangular orifice shape resulted in a shifting of the self-similarity location.

Effects of the synthetic jet on the flow field and heat transfer over a surface-mounted square rib

Sushanta Dutta et al.

Summary: This article investigates the effects of a synthetic jet on the flow behavior and heat transfer behind a square rib. Experimentation and measurements were conducted to obtain results. The study found that the synthetic jet can greatly reduce the reattachment length and completely eliminate the recirculation bubble at a specific position. The maximum heat transfer rate was obtained at a frequency of 50 Hz.
