Bio-based poly(butylene furandicarboxylate-co-butylene 2,5-thiophenedicarboxylate): synthesis, thermal properties, crystallization properties and mechanical properties

Guoqiang Wang et al.

Summary: This study aims to investigate the effect of a cheap bio-based monomer, 2,5-thiophenedicarboxylic acid, on poly(butylene furandicarboxylate). Bio-based copolyesters were successfully synthesized, and the addition of 2,5-thiophenedicarboxylic acid led to a reduction in polyester cost and improved toughness. The findings are significant for packaging applications.

Synthesis of High Performance Thiophene-Aromatic Polyesters from Bio-Sourced Organic Acids and Polysaccharide-Derived Diol: Characterization and Degradability Studies

Lesly Dasilva Wandji Djouonkep et al.

Summary: This work investigates the feasibility of replacing petroleum-based poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) with fully bio-based copolyesters. By varying the ratio of diester monomers in the reaction, the properties of the copolyesters can be tailored. The resulting copolyesters exhibit good thermal and mechanical properties, as well as enhanced susceptibility to hydrolysis and appreciable biodegradability.

Poly(propylene naphthalate-co-propylene 2,5-thiophenedicarboxylate)s derived from bio-based 2,5-thiophenedicarboxylic acid (TDCA): Synthesis and properties

Guoqiang Wang et al.

Summary: The properties of poly(propylene naphthalate-co-propylene 2,5-thiophenedicarboxylate)s copolyesters were fine-tuned by incorporating 2,5-thiophenedicarboxylic acid (TDCA), resulting in changes in glass transition temperature and tensile strength. PPTF exhibited the lowest glass transition temperature and highest tensile strength, while PPN, PPNTF23, PPNTF50, and PPNTF76 showed superior thermal stability and tensile strength.
