Synthesis of colorless polyimides with high Tg from asymmetric twisted benzimidazole diamines

Xiaoying Yan et al.

Summary: To prepare colorless polyimide films with high thermal properties, asymmetric and twisted structures were incorporated into the polymer chain-segments. The resulting poly(benzimidazole imide)s showed high glass transition temperature and improved optical transparency, making them potential candidates for optical materials. The influence of various substitutions on the properties of these poly(benzimidazole imide)s was also analyzed. This study expands the applications of poly(benzimidazole imide)s and provides a feasible method for preparing heat-resistant colorless polymers.

Colorless polyimides from 2,2′,3,3′-biphenyltetracarboxylic dianhydride and fluorinated diamines

Yuanzhen Xu et al.

Summary: In this study, colorless polyimides (CPIs) were synthesized using 2,2',3,3'-biphenyltetracarboxylic dianhydride (3,3'-BPDA), and their properties were systematically investigated. The resulting CPIs exhibited deficient chain packing and suppressed formation of charge transfer complexes (CTC), leading to high solubility and outstanding optical properties.

Reduced coefficient of linear thermal expansion for colorless and transparent polyimide by introducing rigid-rod amide units: synthesis and properties

Hongtao Zuo et al.

Summary: This study presents an effective design solution to address the trade-off between optical transparency and low coefficient of linear thermal expansion (CTE) in polyimide (PI) films. By introducing rigid-rod amide units, the researchers were able to regulate intra- and interchain interactions, resulting in highly transparent PI films with low CTE. This design strategy shows potential for applications in flexible micro-electronics fields.

Synthesis and characterization of amide-bridged colorless polyimide films with low CTE and high optical performance for flexible OLED displays

Zhenghui Yang et al.

Summary: Three novel dianhydride monomers with amide groups were synthesized and polymerized to produce colorless polyimides with excellent optical performance, thermal stability, film ductility, and solution-processability. One of the polyimides exhibited ultra-low thermal expansion coefficient, high T-g value, and large elongation at break due to its rigid-rod backbone and hydrogen bonding between molecular chains. The incorporation of bulky trifluoromethyl and cyclohexyl groups resulted in high optical transmittance, low haze, and low yellow index, indicating potential application in flexible OLED displays.
