Dibenzoylperoxide as a Versatile Oxidant for Oxidative Azidations of Phenols Using Quaternary Ammonium Iodides or Bromides.

Christopher Mairhofer et al.

Summary: Dibenzoylperoxide was found to be a versatile oxidant for reactions of phenol derivatives with NaN3 catalyzed by quaternary ammonium iodide or bromide. The use of iodides allowed for efficient benzylic azidations, while the use of bromides allowed for dearomative azidations. Both methods have been successfully applied to various phenol derivatives, and an enantioselective variant using chiral quat. ammonium bromides has been demonstrated.

Oxidative Cross-Coupling Reactions between Two Nucleophiles†

Lijun Lu et al.

Summary: Oxidative cross-coupling reactions between two nucleophiles have become a significant tool in organic synthesis for constructing chemical bonds. This reaction model was discovered through the cross-coupling of two organometallic reagents and related mechanisms were revealed through the characterization of intermediates and study of reaction kinetics using operando spectroscopy. The reaction exhibits high atom and step economy, making it an ideal and economical process for synthesizing valuable chemicals.

Electrophilic Selenocyanogen Cyclization of Alkynes; Synthesis of Benzofurylselenocyanates, Benzothienylselenocyanates and Indolylselenocyanates

Jia Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, a method for synthesizing benzofurylselenocyanates, benzothienylselenocyanates, and indolylselenocyanates through electrophilic selenocyanogen cyclization was established. The sequential process was conducted under mild conditions and in a short time. This protocol was successfully applied to the late-stage functionalization of bioactive molecules. Importantly, the selenocyanate can be converted into other valuable Se-containing compounds and exhibited antitumor activity against human hepatoma cells HepG2.

PhICl2-Mediated Regioselective and Electrophilic Oxythio/Selenocyanation of o-(1-Alkynyl)benzoates: Access to Biologically Active S/SeCN-Containing Isocoumarins

Shanqing Tao et al.

Summary: The synthesis of biologically active isocoumarins containing S/SeCN was successfully achieved through the application of PhICl2/NH4SCN and PhICl2/KSeCN reagent systems, involving thio/selenocyanation and intramolecular lactonization reactions. The gram-scale synthesis, further derivatization to obtain C4 thio/selenocyanated Xyridin A, and the anti-tumor activities of the obtained products demonstrate the potential utility of this method.

Organic Selenocyanates: Rapid Advancements and Applicationsin the Field of Organic Chemistry

Pran Gopal Karmaker et al.

Summary: The incorporation of the cyanato-chalcogen group has attracted the interest of researchers in modern organic synthetic chemistry. However, the development of methodologies for selenocyanation is lagging behind compared to OCN and SCN chemistry due to the scarcity of SeCN transfer reagents and synthetic approaches. In recent years, new reagents and techniques have been introduced that allow the uncomplicated creation of the selenocyanato group under gentle reaction conditions, which was seemingly unimaginable.

Photoinduced Synthesis of Thiocyanates through Hydrogen Atom Transfer and One-Pot Derivatization to Isothiocyanates

Bumpei Maeda et al.

Summary: This article describes a photoinduced benzylic C-H thiocyanation method. A series of alkyl thiocyanates were efficiently synthesized using Selectfluor as the oxidant, and one-pot isothiocyanation was achieved following the C-H thiocyanation. The resulting thiocyanates and isothiocyanates can be applied to the divergent transformation of pharmaceuticals.
