Metal-free intramolecular hydroarylation of alkynes

Chaofeng Zhang et al.

Summary: An efficient metal-free intramolecular hydroarylation reaction of alkynes is described, producing high yields of hydroarylation products for a series of aryl and N-group attached alkynes. However, less hindered alkynes resulted in the formation of complex mixtures due to formal oxidation and reduction reactions. Additionally, a one-pot synthesis of 4,4'-disubstituted-1,1'-binaphthyls was achieved through a hydroarylation/oxidative coupling protocol.

Influenza-existing drugs and treatment prospects

Avishak Sarker et al.

Summary: Influenza is a century-old disease that poses challenges to humans due to its mutating nature, seasonal epidemics, and occasional pandemics. The limited effectiveness of strain-specific vaccines and the growing drug resistance to anti-influenza drugs call for the development of novel drugs with broad reactivity, higher bioavailability, easier administration, and fewer side effects.

Influenza chimeric hemagglutinin structures in complex with broadly protective antibodies to the stem and trimer interface

Xueyong Zhu et al.

Summary: Broadly protective antibodies targeting conserved regions of the influenza virus hemagglutinin (HA) have the potential to generate universal influenza immunity. The study validates the potential of two chimeric HAs, cH4/3 and cH15/3, as universal vaccine immunogens. In addition to targeting the conserved HA stem, the chimeric HAs may also be able to elicit antibodies against the conserved trimer interface in the HA head domain.

Influenza A virus protein PB1-F2 impairs innate immunity by inducing mitophagy

Wang Ruifang et al.

Summary: IAV infection induces mitophagy, with the PB1-F2 protein playing a key role in this process by translocating to mitochondria and interacting with TUFM and LC3B. PB1-F2-induced mitophagy leads to degradation of MAVS and suppression of type I interferon production, resulting in impaired cellular innate immunity, making it a potential therapeutic target.
