Design and optimization of aerospike nozzle for rotating detonation engine

Xiang-Yang Liu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the performance of rotating detonation engine (RDE) combined with various types of aerospike nozzles and proposes a method for designing optimal aerospike nozzle for RDE with annulus combustion chamber. The results show that the nozzle with inward-bend cowl lip and isentropic ramp surface can generate optimal thrust, and the stagnation pressure gain in combustor is greatly improved with the constriction nozzle throat.

Experimental investigation of micro-ramp control for shock train under various incoming flow conditions

Ziao Wang et al.

Summary: This study experimentally investigated the potential of a micro-ramp as a form of shock train control in a supersonic isolator. The results showed that the micro-ramp can effectively suppress the upstream propagation of the shock train and improve its downstream flow field. The control effect of the micro-ramp was found to be enhanced in the presence of background waves. It was also found that the micro-ramp had different effects on shock train morphological structure at different incoming Mach numbers.

Pilot hydrogen enhanced combustion in an ethylene-fueled scramjet combustor at Mach 4

Ye Tian et al.

Summary: This study investigates the combustion process in an ethylene-fueled scramjet combustor through numerical simulation and experiments, dividing the process into six parts. The combustion process involves nonreacting flow, hydrogen injection leading to shock waves, hydrogen combustion, hydrogen and ethylene combustion, ethylene combustion alone, and flame extinguishing.

Effect of pilot hydrogen on the formation of dynamic flame in an ethylene-fueled scramjet with a cavity

Wen Shi et al.

Summary: The study found that using pilot hydrogen can effectively suppress oscillations in internal flow and improve the stability of ethylene flame in a scramjet. The stability of the pure ethylene flame is poor without pilot hydrogen. Injection of pilot hydrogen ahead of the cavity is crucial for stabilizing the ethylene flame.
