Deep Red Emitting Heteroleptic Ir(III) Complexes that Incorporate Unsymmetrical 4-quinoline Carboxylic Acid Derived Ligands

Christopher E. E. Elgar et al.

Summary: Six disubstituted ligands based upon 2-(2'-pyridinyl/pyrazinyl)quinoline-4-carboxylic acids have been synthesised for use as ancillary chelating ligands in Ir(III) complexes. X-ray crystallography revealed a distorted octahedral geometry and predicted MLCT/LLCT character for the complexes. The complexes exhibited luminescence in the deep red region and emitted from triplet states.

Tuning the Reactivity of Cofacial Porphyrin Prisms for Oxygen Reduction Using Modular Building Blocks

Matthew R. Crawley et al.

Summary: This study focused on assembling eight cofacial porphyrin prisms using MTPyP and functionalized ruthenium-based molecular clips, demonstrating significant improvement in catalytic rate constant k(s) and selectivity for the 4e(-)/4H* reduction of O-2 to H2O. The role of steric bulk of the clip in the structural dynamics of these prisms, which modulates the ORR reactivity with respect to selectivity and kinetics, was highlighted.

Visible-light-induced direct construction of amide bond from carboxylic acids with amines in aqueous solution

Jin Wang et al.

Summary: A novel visible-light-promoted N-acylation method has been developed for the synthesis of amides from easily available carboxylic acids and amines in aqueous solution within 2.5 hours in the presence of I-2. The use of sunlight as a light source greatly reduces experiment costs and has almost no toxic effects, providing an alternative catalytic system for the construction of a wide range of amides with readily available materials. The strategy was successfully applied in the preparation of a compound with significant anti-proliferation effects on A549, MCF-7, and HCT116 cell lines.

Red-to-NIR Iridium(III) Emitters: Synthesis, Photophysical and Computational Study, the Effects of Cyclometallating and β-Diketonate Ligands

Kirill M. Kuznetsov et al.

Summary: Nine novel heteroleptic Ir(III) complexes were synthesized, with six of them displaying phosphorescence in the deep red and NIR regions. The variation in orthometalating ligands resulted in dramatic changes in photophysical behavior, affecting the emission characteristics of the compounds.
