Heart Failure After ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction: Beyond Left Ventricular Adverse Remodeling

Marco Giuseppe Del Buono et al.

Summary: ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Although treatment advancements have reduced early complications and in-hospital mortality, a considerable number of STEMI survivors develop heart failure (HF) in the long-term. Traditionally, HF after STEMI is characterized by left ventricular adverse remodeling (LVAR), but recent improvements in STEMI treatment have reduced the incidence and form of LVAR while the risk of HF remains substantial, leading to a new paradigm of HF with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) independent of LVAR.

Temporal trends in major cardiovascular events following first-time myocardial infarction in the reperfusion era - a Danish nationwide cohort study from 2000 to 2017

Pauline Bohsen Ravn et al.

Summary: The study found a decreasing risk of recurrent MI, first-time admission for HF, and all-cause mortality in patients with a first-time MI from 2000 to 2017. Furthermore, there was an increase in the overall use of revascularization and guideline-recommended pharmacotherapy during the same period. The results provide important insights into patients' prognosis and the importance of following guidelines for treating MI.

Impact of age, gender and heart failure on mortality trends after acute myocardial infarction in Italy

Leonardo De Luca et al.

Summary: This nationwide study examines the impact of gender, age, and heart failure on mortality trends in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI). The study finds a decrease in both in-hospital mortality rate and 1-year post-discharge mortality rate over time. Elderly patients and those with heart failure were found to have a higher risk of fatal events.

Summary: The study investigated the national trends and long-term outcomes of post-MI heart failure. The incidence of heart failure after MI has decreased over time, but it still leads to significantly higher long-term mortality.

Summary: The win ratio method is a useful approach for analyzing composite outcomes in cardiovascular trials. In the post-hoc analysis of the PARADISE-MI trial, sacubitril/valsartan was found to be superior to ramipril in patients with acute myocardial infarction.

Evaluating the Application of Chronic Heart Failure Therapies and Developing Treatments in Individuals With Recent Myocardial Infarction A Review

Josephine Harrington et al.

Summary: Despite advances in cardiac care, patients with myocardial infarction (MI) still face high risks of death and heart failure (HF). Trials have shown differences between HF and post-MI populations, highlighting the need for dedicated post-MI treatments and exploring new therapies for this high-risk group.
