Screening and identification of biomarkers associated with the immune infiltration of intracerebral hemorrhage

Hao Guo et al.

Summary: This study explores the roles of inflammation and immunity in the progression of intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) by analyzing gene expression data. Five hub genes were identified as potential biomarkers for predicting ICH progression. The analysis of immune signatures infiltration revealed differences in immune-related cells and types in early and late samples of ICH patients.

Prophylactic tranexamic acid in patients with hematologic malignancy: a placebo-controlled, randomized clinical trial

Terry B. Gernsheimer et al.

Summary: There is a lack of evidence on the effectiveness of prophylactic use of tranexamic acid (TXA) in patients with thrombocytopenia. A clinical trial was conducted to determine whether TXA can safely reduce bleeding incidence in patients undergoing treatment for hematologic malignancies. The results showed that compared to placebo, TXA did not significantly reduce the risk of WHO grade >= 2 bleeding in patients with hematologic malignancies undergoing chemotherapy or hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.

Platelet transfusion and tranexamic acid to prevent bleeding in outpatients with a hematological disease: A Dutch nationwide survey

Loes L. Cornelissen et al.

Summary: Prophylactic platelet transfusions are widely used in acute leukemia and MDS outpatients, while TXA is predominantly prescribed in case of bleeding tendencies. Conditions potentially increasing bleeding risks highly variably influence clinicians' decision making on anti-bleeding regimens.

Summary: The study found that transfusion count and costs for patients with MDS increased significantly with IPSS-R risk category, but were similar across age groups. Particularly, transfusion costs were considerable for patients in the highest IPSS-R risk categories.

Fecal blood loss: A quantitative method of evaluating hemostasis in patients with thrombocytopenia

Sherrill J. Slichter et al.

Summary: The purpose of the study was to determine if fecal blood loss can be used as a quantitative measure of bleeding in patients with hypoproliferative thrombocytopenia, and to investigate the effects of different prophylactic platelet transfusion triggers on fecal blood loss. The results showed that prophylactic platelet transfusion at a threshold of 5000/mu L or higher is sufficient to maintain hemostasis in patients with thrombocytopenia, with similar fecal blood loss compared to transfusions at higher thresholds, but with a significant increase in the total number of platelet transfusions needed.
