Experimental investigations on the engineering properties of pozzolanic concrete reinforced with fibers and the reduction of CO2 emissions: A case study on local mineral pozzolan

Mojtaba Rangrazian et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a natural pozzolan with suitable physical and chemical properties to replace a part of cement in concrete, and investigates its engineering properties. Steel and polypropylene fibers are used separately and in combination with the new mineral pozzolan to improve the mechanical properties of pozzolanic concrete. The results show that the pozzolanic concrete containing steel fibers has higher compressive strength compared to others, and the combination of steel and polypropylene fibers performs better in terms of flexural strength. This pozzolan can be a great alternative to reduce cement consumption and CO2 emissions in concrete production.

Equivalent CO2 Emission and Cost Analysis of Green Self-Compacting Rubberized Concrete

Sylvia E. Kelechi et al.

Summary: The study suggests that green self-compacting concrete can be produced by substituting 40% of cement with fly ash, 10% of fine aggregate with crumb rubber, and 10% of calcium carbide residue as a replacement for cementitious materials. This approach results in lower CO2 emissions and acceptable strength levels for conventional SCC.

A comparative study of natural pozzolan and fly ash: Investigation on abrasion resistance and transport properties of self-consolidating concrete

Mohammadreza Sharbaf et al.

Summary: This study compared the influence of natural pozzolan and fly ash as SCM on the properties of Self-Consolidating Concrete (SCC). The results showed that replacing a small amount of portland cement with SCM reduced the depth of wear, but the improvement was diminished with increasing dosage of SCM. The use of SCMs can achieve similar or improved mechanical and transport properties, especially at later ages of curing.

Nano- and micro-scale characterisation of interfacial transition zone (ITZ) of high volume slag and slag-fly ash blended concretes containing nano SiO2 and nano CaCO3

Anwar Hosan et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the effect of adding nano calcium carbonate and nano silica on the interfacial transition zone of high volume slag and high volume slag-fly ash blended concretes. The results show that the addition of nano materials can improve the microstructure and mechanical properties of concrete, resulting in increased compressive strength.

Nano-CSH modified high volume fly ash concrete: Early-age properties and environmental impact analysis

Zhiyuan Zhou et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that adding nano-CSH crystals in high volume fly ash concrete improves early age properties and enhances strength and setting time. Different ratios of nano-CSH crystals have significant impacts on concrete strength and microstructure. Additionally, nano-CSH crystals can reduce the environmental impact of concrete mixes.

Achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions in the cement industry via value chain mitigation strategies

Sabbie A. Miller et al.

Summary: Cement is widely used in construction globally, but its production leads to significant greenhouse gas emissions, posing a barrier to achieving net zero emissions by 2050. Various challenges in emission reduction for industries related to cement production and use are addressed with a focus on mitigating emissions through circular economy approaches.
