Characterizing the driving dilemma among patients with psychogenic nonepileptic seizures: A single-center prospective cohort study

Summary: This study investigated the frequency of epileptic seizures (ES) and psychogenic non-epileptic seizures (PNES) in an epilepsy monitoring unit and driving-related issues in each group. The results showed that although the PNES group had a higher frequency of events, a large percentage of these patients complied with driving law recommendations. Patients with PNES had a higher incidence of habitual events while driving but were less likely to be involved in accidents resulting in serious bodily injury compared to patients with ES.

Ictal injury: Epilepsy vs. functional (psychogenic) seizures

Summary: The study aimed to compare the risk and types of ictal injuries among three groups of individuals with seizures (idiopathic generalized epilepsy, temporal lobe epilepsy, and febrile seizures). While the groups differed in demographic and clinical characteristics, there were no significant differences in rates of ictal injuries. Patients with temporal lobe epilepsy were more likely to report tongue injuries, but other types/locations of ictal injuries were reported to varying degrees by all three groups.
