Enhanced Pb(II) removal from water using conductive carbonaceous nanomaterials as bacterial scaffolds: An experimental and modelling approach

Cassandra Chidiac et al.

Summary: This study investigates the abilities of electrochemically active bacteria (EAB) to bioreduce Pb(II) in an attached growth reactor. The results show that a reactor with electrically conductive carbon nanofibers (CNFs) as bacterial scaffolds can efficiently remove Pb(II) from solution at different concentrations. Experimental measurements and numerical modeling provide evidence that suggests the adsorption of Pb(II) onto CNFs and subsequent bioreduction. This study is the first to demonstrate EAB's ability to treat Pb(II) in contaminated waters using an attached growth configuration, highlighting the potential of CNFs in boosting biological treatment efficacy.

Hydroxyapatite/Dolomite alkaline activated material reaction in the formation of low temperature sintered ceramic as adsorbent materials

Fatin Farhana Kamarzamann et al.

Summary: Hazardous pollutants, especially heavy metals, in wastewater pose a major concern. Adsorption process is widely used for heavy metal removal, but some adsorbents are becoming expensive. Alkali-activated materials (AAMs), particularly dolomite, show potential as new adsorbents. However, there is limited research on using dolomite for heavy metal removal in wastewater, and limited studies on the relationship between dolomite and hydroxyapatite (HAP).
