Double dielectric barrier discharge incorporated with CeO2-Co3O4/γ-Al2O3 catalyst for toluene abatement by a sequential adsorption-discharge plasma catalytic process

Shijie Li et al.

Summary: Non-thermal plasma (NTP) is a promising technique for removing volatile organic compounds (VOCs), but its practical implementation is limited. In this study, the efficiency of NTP was improved by optimizing reactor configuration and using catalysts. A packed bed double dielectric barrier discharge (DDBD) system was used with CeO2-Co3O4 catalysts for toluene removal. CeO2-Co3O4 catalysts showed higher degradation performance and improved surface adsorbed oxygen and reducibility of the catalyst. The effects of applied voltage, adsorbed amount, and discharge time on the degradation efficiency were also explored.

Insight into the Role of Cerium in the Enhanced Performances during Catalytic Combustion of Acetonitrile over Core-Shell-like Cu-Ce/ZSM-5 Catalysts

Yaoyu Zhang et al.

Summary: Cerium-modified Cu/ZSM-5 catalysts effectively improved the mineralization rate and nitrogen selectivity of acetonitrile. The core-shell-like structure of Cu-Ce/ZSM-5 samples, with a Cu-Ce mixed oxide layer, exhibited enhanced reducibility and increased active oxygen species. Surface cerium species strengthened the hydrolysis reaction path of acetonitrile, generating sufficient NH species. The Cu-Ce/ZSM-5 core eliminated NO from acetonitrile overoxidation through internal selectivity catalytic reduction.

Catalytic combustion of acetonitrile over CuCeOx-HZSM-5 composite catalysts with different mass ratios: The synergism between oxidation and hydrolysis reactions

Yaoyu Zhang et al.

Summary: For the catalytic oxidation of acetonitrile, the Cu-Ce loading of composite catalysts significantly influences the activity, selectivity, and mineralization rate. Highly dispersed CuOx species and Cu2+-exchanged HZSM-5 zeolite contribute to the enhanced activity and N-2 selectivity of the catalyst. Catalysts with low Cu-Ce loading tend to form carbonaceous products, leading to a decrease in the mineralization rate.
