Summary: The distribution of water resources among provinces in China has a significant impact on the social and economic development of each region. This study examines the water resources carrying capacity (WRCC) of Chinese provinces by analyzing dynamic changes and key factors hindering improvement. The study finds significant inter-provincial differences in WRCC, with provinces rich in natural water resources and economically developed provinces having higher WRCC.

Summary: In this study, the water-carbon-ecological footprints and a nonlinear grey Bernoulli projection model were used to evaluate the comprehensive environmental pressure in the urban agglomerations of Cheng-Yu district, the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, and the Yangtze River Delta. The results showed that these regions experienced ecological deficit and an increase in comprehensive environmental pressure. The coupling coordination degree of environmental footprints was improved in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River and the Yangtze River Delta, but not in the urban agglomerations of Cheng-Yu district.

Summary: Water resource shortage in Xinjiang hinders the development of society and economy, making the assessment of water resource carrying capacity crucial. By establishing a model and investigating the results, it is found that the water resource carrying capacity in Xinjiang is not overloaded, but the capacity is worse in the northern region compared to the southern region. The efficiency of agricultural water use is vital to the carrying capacity.

Summary: Analyzing urban scaling relations and incorporating spatial autocorrelation can help predict future city development and derive scale adjusted metropolitan indicators (SAMIs) for evaluating city performance. In this study, an eigenvector spatial filtering (ESF) model is proposed to capture the spatial effect in modeling the scaling relations of cities. Based on the residuals of the ESF model, a new set of urban indicators called spatial and scale adjusted metropolitan indicators (SSAMIs) is proposed to address the influence of spatial autocorrelation on SAMIs. The results from experiments in China and the United States show that the ESF model generates better-fitted results compared to non-spatial models, and using SSAMIs can avoid overestimations or underestimations of cities in different regions.

Summary: Although tourism development has economic benefits, its rapid growth poses serious threats to the environment and resource consumption. This study constructs an evaluation system for tourism development and resource environment carrying capacity, and analyzes the situation in the Yangtze River Economic Belt. The research findings reveal spatial imbalances in tourism development and resource environment carrying capacity.

Summary: Urbanization is the main driver of global environmental and land use land cover changes. This study used Geographic Information System to analyze the changes in land use and land cover in Peshawar district and linked the results with environmental aspects and DPSIR framework. The results showed a significant increase in vegetation cover due to government afforestation projects, but also a major expansion in built-up areas. The adverse effects of urbanization on the natural environment should be addressed by the government and environmental protection agencies.

Summary: The development process of resource-based cities has distinct stages, and accurately evaluating the carrying capacity and diagnosing obstacle factors are crucial for sustainable development. Taking Jiaozuo City as an example, a model was constructed to evaluate its comprehensive resource and environmental carrying capacity, revealing different stages of evolution. Scientific and technological innovation, ecological and environmental protection, public infrastructure investment, and green development were identified as the main factors affecting Jiaozuo's sustainable development.

Summary: The WRCC of cities in the Pearl River Delta (PRD) was analyzed using the entropy weight-TOPSIS model, revealing low overall scores with significant regional differences. Shenzhen, Zhaoqing, and Huizhou obtained higher scores, while Zhongshan, Foshan, and Zhuhai scored lower. Additionally, Shenzhen had a high score for the socio-economic subsystem, while cities like Huizhou, Jiangmen, and Zhaoqing achieved high scores for the water resources and eco-environmental subsystems.

Summary: This study evaluates the environmental carrying capacity levels and obstacle factors of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, Yangtze River Delta, and Pearl River Delta urban agglomerations using the entropy-weighted topsis model and the obstacle diagnosis model. The results show that Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei has the highest environmental carrying capacity level, and economic development is the main influencing factor. The study recommends that future city clusters focus on ecological civilization construction, develop high-tech and green industries, and maximize resource utilization efficiency for coordinated economic and environmental development.

Summary: This study developed a methodology for monthly PM2.5 estimates and uncertainties using satellite retrievals, chemical transport modeling, and ground-based measurements. Findings show higher winter PM2.5 concentrations in many densely populated regions, with South Asia and East Asia having particularly high levels, although East Asia showed a decreasing trend in PM2.5 concentrations over the period studied.

Summary: This study analyzed the coordination state between urbanization and water resources carrying capacity in the Yellow River Basin using index systems and a coupling coordination degree model. Results showed that the imbalance between urbanization and water resources capacity is the main contradiction to be solved for sustainability in the region. The analysis provides guidance for policymakers to set realistic goals for high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin.
