Advances in fabrication of molecularly imprinted electrochemical sensors for detection of contaminants and toxicants

Sushma Pardeshi et al.

Summary: Growing concerns about water contamination and pollution have led to increased interest in trace level sensing of contaminants. Molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) have shown potential for selective recognition of various toxicants and are widely used in electrochemical sensors (ECS). In recent years, the combination of nanomaterials modifiers with MIPs has significantly improved the sensing performance of MIP-ECS. This review summarizes the advances of MIP-ECS electrochemical sensors in the past six years and discusses the challenges and future prospects in this research area.

Non-aqueous onion like nano-carbons from waste diesel-soot used as FRET-based sensor for sensing of nitro-phenols

Kumar Gunture et al.

Summary: This study describes a simple-functionalization method for preparing oleylamine functionalized non-aqueous onion-like nanocarbons derived from waste pollutant soot. The surface group analysis of the nanocarbons is conducted, and their fluorescence-based sensing applications for toxic aromatic nitro-phenols compounds are investigated. The fluorescence quenching observed is mainly attributed to the Forster Resonance Energy Transfer (FRET) mechanism.

Dummy Molecularly Imprinted Polymers Using DNP as a Template Molecule for Explosive Sensing and Nitroaromatic Compound Discrimination

Anna Herrera-Chacon et al.

Summary: This study introduces a voltammetric sensor based on a dummy molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) for the detection of 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene (TNT) and 2,4-dinitrophenol (DNP). The sensor is cost-effective, rapid, and simple to use. Chemometric tools, particularly principal component analysis (PCA), demonstrate the sensor's potential applications in environmental settings for discriminating nitroaromatic and potential interfering species.
