The heavy lanthanide of Thulium(III) separation and recovery using specific ligand-based facial composite adsorbent

Khadiza Tul Kubra et al.

Summary: The synthesis of the organic ligand EBMS and its immobilization onto mesoporous silica led to the successful fabrication of a composite adsorbent (FCA) for the separation, adsorption, and recovery of Tm(III) ions. The FCA displayed high kinetic performance and was unaffected by competing metal ions. The adsorption behavior of Tm(III) ions on FCA followed the Langmuir adsorption isotherm model with a maximum adsorption capacity of 168.57 mg/g. The FCA showed strong selectivity and potential for the effective separation and recovery of Tm(III) ions from waste samples.

Green and robust adsorption and recovery of Europium(III) with a mechanism using hybrid donor conjugate materials

Md. Rabiul Awual et al.

Summary: The hybrid donor chemical ligand of THTB was embedded onto inorganic porous silica as HCM for the adsorption and recovery of Eu(III) ions. The adsorption mechanism was described using surface complexation, and the adsorption performance was evaluated under various experimental conditions. The HCM exhibited a high affinity for Eu(III) ions due to the coordination of O-, N-, and S-donor atoms of THTB. The Langmuir adsorption isotherm model was applied to validate the adsorption isotherms, and the adsorption capacity of the HCM was determined to be 176.31 mg/g. The adsorbed Eu(III) ions were effectively eluted from HCM with 0.20 M HNO3 eluent, and the HCM could be regenerated without deterioration. This study has significant applicative utility for the green technology of Eu(III) ion recovery from waste aqueous solutions.

A. K. Priya et al.

Summary: This study investigated the potential use of rice husk powder as a biosorbent for the removal of heavy metal ions from aqueous solutions. The experimental results showed that under optimized conditions, rice husk powder could effectively remove Cr, Pb, and Zn metal ions with high efficiency. The adsorption process followed the Temkin and D-R isotherm model and Elovich model for kinetic data. Based on the findings, rice husk powder could be considered as a low-cost and efficient adsorbent for heavy metal ion removal from industrial effluent.

Relationship between Surface Hydroxyl Complexation and Equi-Acidity Point pH of MnO2 and Its Adsorption for Co2+ and Ni2+

Mingdong Li et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the adsorption performance of different crystal forms of MnO2 on heavy metal ions in high-concentration metal salt solution. It is found that the equi-acidity point pH of different crystalline MnO2 varies, which is mainly influenced by the complexation of surface hydroxyl. By controlling the pH, more hydroxyl groups can participate in the adsorption reaction, thereby increasing the adsorption rate of MnO2 on heavy metal ions.

Tuning the dual-active sites of ZIF-67 derived porous nanomaterials for boosting oxygen catalysis and rechargeable Zn-air batteries

Zeyi Zhang et al.

Summary: The rational control of the active site in metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) derived nanomaterials is essential for building efficient bifunctional oxygen reduction/evolution reaction (ORR/OER) catalysts. By designing a Co3O4-Co heterostructure embedded in Co, N co-doped carbon polyhedra derived from ZIF-67 and cobalt nanocrystals, a dual-active site is realized, leading to excellent electrocatalytic activity. The theory calculation results suggest that charge redistribution of Co in the Co-N-x site is attributed to the optimized rate-determining step of desorption of intermediates in ORR and OER.
