Nickel removal from wastewater using electrocoagulation process with zinc electrodes under various operating conditions: performance investigation, mechanism exploration, and cost analysis

Omar A. Shaker et al.

Summary: This study investigates the removal of nickel (Ni) from synthetic and real wastewater using the electrocoagulation method. The results demonstrate that electrocoagulation has a better performance in Ni removal compared to chemical coagulation. The optimal operating conditions are a current density of 10 mA/cm(2), a pH of 9.2, and a gap distance of 4 cm. The kinetic data are best represented by the second-order Lagergren model. The maximum electrical energy consumption for Ni removal is 23.79 KWh/m(3).

Selective separation of metals from wastewater using sulfide precipitation: A critical review in agents, operational factors and particle aggregation

Xingfei Zhang et al.

Summary: Extensive research has been conducted on the selective precipitation of metal sulfides, considering sulfur source types, operating factors, and particle aggregation. The pH value and sulfide ion supersaturation are identified as key operational factors influencing selectivity precipitation. Effective adjustment of sulfide concentration and feeding rate can reduce local supersaturation and improve separation accuracy. The regulation of pH and sulfur ion saturation also controls the zeta potential and hydrophilic/hydrophobic properties on the particles surface, thereby affecting particle aggregation. Finally, suggestions and prospects are proposed for the development of agents, kinetic optimization, and product utilization to promote the industrial application of selective precipitation of metal sulfides in a better, safer, and more efficient way.

The recovery of sulfur as ZnS particles from sulfide-contained wastewater using fluidized bed homogeneous crystallization technology

Po-Lin Liao et al.

Summary: This study utilizes a novel method, fluidized-bed homogeneous crystallization, to remove sulfide ions from wastewater. By homogeneously crystallizing ZnS using zinc as a precipitant, the production of sludge in the conventional chemical precipitation process is reduced. The study establishes the optimal pH value, [Zn2+](0)/[S2-](0) ratio, sulfide cross-sectional surface loading, and hydraulic retention time to optimize the sulfur removal efficiency.

Fluidized-bed crystallization of barium perborate for continuous boron removal from concentrated solution: Supersaturation as a master variable

Jui-Yen Lin et al.

Summary: The study aims to improve the treatment process for boron removal by utilizing Ba-COP@FBC in a fluidized-bed crystallization system. Results show that at pH 10, 85% of total removal and 83% of crystallization ratio were achieved from an input boron level of 600 mg-B/L. Various factors like dosage of H2O2 and Ba, initial concentration, and reflux ratio influence the performance, which can be summarized by supersaturation.

Polymerizable precursor method vs solid state reaction for the synthesis of Ni3(PO4)2 yellow hue pigment with advanced characteristics

Nataliia Gorodylova et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the synthesis method of a yellow-hue inorganic phosphate (Ni-3(PO4)(2)) for its application in advanced light reflective technologies. The results show that the polymerizable precursor method (PPM) has advantages over solid state reaction (SSR) and other inorganic yellow-shade pigments reported in the literature. The obtained pigment fulfills the demands of a subtractive primary pigment with ideal yellow shade and uniform spherical micron-sized particles morphology. It has the potential for application in printing technologies and electrophoretic displays.
