The Effect of Sugarcane Bagasse Biochar on Maize Growth Factors in Lead and Cadmium-Polluted Soils

Farzad Rassaei

Summary: The use of sugarcane bagasse biochar was found to be an effective technique for reducing the toxicity of heavy metals in soil and promoting the growth of maize. The application of different concentrations of biochar significantly increased the dry weight of roots and shoots, while decreasing the concentration of heavy metals in these plant parts.

Nitrous oxide emissions from rice paddy: Impacts of rice straw and water management

Farzad Rassaei

Summary: Organic amendments like rice straw are commonly used to improve soil quality in agriculture. However, the application of rice straw may affect methane and nitrous oxide production, leading to increased accessible nutrients and organic matter. The use of water management techniques, such as alternative wetness and dryness irrigation, can improve water use efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Our study demonstrates that alternative wetness and dryness irrigation saved 18.50% water and significantly decreased nitrous oxide emissions.

Effect of monocalcium phosphate on the concentration of cadmium chemical fractions in two calcareous soils in Iran

Farzad Rassaei

Summary: This study aims to investigate the impact of phosphorus on the concentration of cadmium chemical fractions in two types of calcareous soils in the Fars province of Iran. The results showed that the addition of monocalcium phosphate reduced the concentration of cadmium in the forms that are easily released into the soil solution, thereby decreasing cadmium uptake by plants.

Effect of two different sources of organic amendment on soil characteristics and chemical forms of cadmium

Farzad Rassaei

Summary: This study examined the effects of organic matter sources on the chemical forms of cadmium in calcareous soil. The addition of organic matter reduced the mobility of cadmium and transformed it into less soluble forms.

Remediation of GenX from water by amidoxime surface-functionalized electrospun polyacrylonitrile nanofibrous adsorbent

Shobha Mantripragada et al.

Summary: This research investigated amidoxime surface-functionalized PAN nanofibrous material as an adsorbent to remove GenX from water, achieving 35% removal efficiency at pH=4 and 0.24g/L loading. The mechanism study indicated that the GenX adsorption on the PAN nanofibrous adsorbent was mainly due to hydrophobic interaction and dipole-dipole interaction, while on the ASFPAN10 nanofibrous adsorbent, it was mainly attributed to coulomb force. The research suggested the use of common economic materials for effective remediation of short-chain PFAS from water bodies.

PFAS removal by ion exchange resins: A review

Fuhar Dixit et al.

Summary: Per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a large family of anthropogenic organic compounds with a wide range of industrial and commercial applications, and have raised global concerns due to their toxicity and bio-accumulative properties. The ion exchange (IX) process has been found to be an efficient technology for the remediation of PFAS-laden surface, ground and effluent wastewaters.
