O and S co-doping induced N-vacancy in graphitic carbon nitride towards photocatalytic peroxymonosulfate activation for sulfamethoxazole degradation

Vasudha Hasija et al.

Summary: Doping-induced vacancy engineering of graphitic carbon nitride (GCN) with oxygen and sulphur co-doping was performed to activate per-oxymonosulfate (PMS) for sulfamethoxazole (SMX) degradation and H2 production. The co-dopants and N-vacancies synergistically lowered the bandgap, separated electron-hole pairs, and utilized solar energy efficiently. The substitution of sp2 N atom with O and S co-dopants enhanced carrier mobility, increased reactive sites, and facilitated charge-carrier separation. The OSGCN/PMS photo-catalytic system achieved high SMX degradation efficiency and H2 generation rate under visible light irradiation. The study also investigated the intermediates and degradation pathway of SMX.

Tailoring S-scheme-based carbon nanotubes (CNTs) mediated Ag-CuBi 2 O 4 /Bi 2 S 3 nanomaterials for photocatalytic dyes degradation in the aqueous system

Vishal Dutta et al.

Summary: This study successfully reported the S-scheme-based hydrothermal synthesis of Ag-CuBi2O4/CNTs/Bi2S3 layered composites. The photocatalytic activity of nanocomposites with varying weight percent of Bi2S3 for the degradation of methyl orange (MO) and methylene blue (MB) dyes in the visible range was examined. Among the candidates, Ag-CuBi2O4/CNTs/Bi2S3 with a 10% loading of Bi2S3 showed the highest photocatalytic activity. The enhanced performance was attributed to the high surface area, reduced recombination rate of charge carriers, faster separation of photogenerated carriers, and high redox ability. The carbon nanotubes (CNTs) acted as a transfer bridge in the layered structure for electrons. The study provides an economical approach for obtaining a stable semiconductor-based photocatalytic system.

Facet Dependent Activity of Fe(III) Species Modified TiO2 for Simulated Sunlight Driven Fenton-like Reactions

Yang Zhao et al.

Summary: TiO2 crystals with different exposed facets are modified by depositing Fe(III) species. Fe-TiO2 with more (101) facets exposed shows enhanced photoactivity for Bisphenol A (BPA) degradation under simulated sunlight irradiation. This enhancement is attributed to the stronger interfacial charge transfer on Fe-TiO2 (101) and a faster Fe(III)/Fe(II) transformation rate. The accelerated generation of center dot OH and 1O2 on Fe-TiO2 (101) leads to better photoactivity.
