Deriving convincing human health ambient water quality criteria for benzo [a]pyrene and providing basis for the water quality management: The impacts of national bioaccumulation factors and probabilistic modeling

Xiaolei Wang et al.

Summary: This paper improves the methodology for deriving human health water quality criteria and applies it to benzo[a]pyrene, providing scientific basis for managing polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in surface waters. The derived criteria are accurate and provide probability distributions of cancer risk. The study is significant for the scientific development of water quality criteria worldwide and pollution management.

Reference dose prediction by using CDK molecular descriptors: A non-experimental method

Shu-Hui Men et al.

Summary: In this study, a new non-experimental method for estimating reference dose was proposed. It involves classifying chemicals based on molecular similarity and using multiple linear stepwise regression to construct a predictive model. The method shows a high level of consistency between predicted values and true values.

Multi-objective Optimization of the TEG Dehydration Process for BTEX Emission Mitigation Using Machine-Learning and Metaheuristic Algorithms

Rajib Mukherjee et al.

Summary: Natural gas processing involves the removal of acidic gases and dehydration, primarily using triethylene glycol (TEG) absorption. During the dehydration process, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) including BTEX are absorbed into the glycol solvent, leading to emissions during thermal regeneration of TEG. Effective mitigation of emission is essential, and a multi-objective optimization is performed to find the optimal operating conditions. The lasso-SVR-EACO strategy is used to identify sets of conditions that minimize BTEX emission.

Health risk assessment and development of human health ambient water quality criteria for PBDEs in China

Jing Wang et al.

Summary: PBDEs are highly efficient brominated flame retardants (BFRs) and typical persistent organic pollutants (POPs) widely distributed in various environmental media. The study found heavy pollution of PBDEs in eastern and southeastern coastal regions of China, with varying concentrations in different exposure media. Dust exposure was the primary pathway for urban and rural residents in ordinary regions, while dietary exposure was the main pathway for residents in key regions and occupational workers. BDE-209 was identified as the most serious individual PBDE congener in China.

Water quality criteria for the protection of human health of 15 toxic metals and their human risk in surface water, China

Xiaonan Wang et al.

Summary: This study in China focused on water quality criteria (WQC) for the protection of human health, analyzing human health WQC for 15 toxic metals and metalloids. The study found that some metals pose potential health risks to the local population through consumption of water and aquatic products.

Bioactivity descriptors for uncharacterized chemical compounds

Martino Bertoni et al.

Summary: Chemical descriptors encode the physicochemical and structural properties of small molecules and are at the core of chemoinformatics. The authors introduce deep neural networks capable of inferring bioactivity signatures for any compound of interest, even with little or no experimental information. Signatures relate to 25 different types of bioactivities and can be used as replacements for chemical descriptors in daily chemoinformatics tasks.
