Comparative analysis on the photolysis kinetics of four neonicotinoid pesticides and their photo-induced toxicity to Vibrio Fischeri: Pathway and toxic mechanism

Lingyun Fan et al.

Summary: Neonicotinoids are widely used pesticides that cause severe water pollution, with direct photolysis dominating the degradation process under simulated sunlight. The photolysis products of these compounds show different levels of photo-induced toxicity to Vibrio fischeri, affected by factors such as scavenging radicals and dissolved organic matters. Different photolysis pathways and mechanisms were observed for the four neonicotinoids, with reactive oxygen species playing important roles in the process.

Triadimefon in aquatic environments: occurrence, fate, toxicity, and ecological risk

Lin Hou et al.

Summary: Triadimefon is a widely used triazole fungicide that can be detected in surface waters with high rates of detection. It can cause various adverse effects on organisms, including those related to the thyroid, reproductive system, liver, nervous system, as well as carcinogenicity and teratogenicity. The risk assessment based on joint probability curves indicates that the risk of triadimefon in aquatic environments is low.

Systematic evaluation of chiral pesticides at the enantiomeric level: A new strategy for the development of highly effective and less harmful pesticides

Zhiyuan Meng et al.

Summary: Chiral pesticides exhibit enantioselectivity differences in biological activity, ecotoxicity, and environmental behavior. Evaluating and developing the enantiomers of chiral pesticides provides an effective strategy for reducing pesticide use and environmental risks, and supports data-driven efforts to reduce pesticide application.

Pesticide residues in drinking water, their potential risk to human health and removal options

Ibrahim El-Nahhal et al.

Summary: The study highlights the presence of pesticide residues in drinking water samples from 31 countries, with a variety of insecticide, herbicide, and fungicide residues identified. Hazard indices exceeded one in many cases, indicating potential health risks to adults, children, and infants. Advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) proved effective in removing pesticide residues from water systems.

Photolysis kinetics of cartap and nereistoxin in water and tea beverages under irradiation of simulated sunlight and ultraviolet under laboratory conditions

Jinxia Dai et al.

Summary: Cartap, widely used in agricultural crops and tea plants, can be readily photolyzed into nereistoxin under ultraviolet light, with the addition of water-soluble components in tea having an inhibitory effect on the photodegradation process. This research provides insights for the development of effective methods for the removal of cartap and its metabolite in water and tea beverages.

Effects of natural colloidal particles derived from a shallow lake on the photodegradation of ofloxacin and ciprofloxacin

Dengmiao Cheng et al.

Summary: This study found that natural colloidal particles (NCPs) can significantly accelerate the photodegradation rate of ofloxacin (OFL) and ciprofloxacin (CIP), indirect photodegradation (IP) accounts for an important proportion in the degradation process, and the triplet states of colloidal organic matter play a key role in photolysis.

Occurrence, spatiotemporal distribution, and risk assessment of current-use pesticides in surface water: A case study near Taihu Lake, China

Tielong Wang et al.

Summary: This study conducted monitoring and risk assessment of current-use pesticides in surface water from the northwestern section of the Taihu Lake Basin in China in 2019. A total of 114 pesticides were detected, with significantly higher number and concentration of pesticides in the wet season compared to the dry season, and more contamination observed in agricultural areas than residential and industrial areas.
