Spatial and temporal changes in ecosystem service driven by ecological compensation in the Xin?an River Basin, China

Hang Yu et al.

Summary: The Xin'an River Basin, as the first pilot project in China for horizontal ecological compensation, has continuously explored compensation methods over the past ten years. This study evaluates the effectiveness of ecological compensation from the perspective of ecosystem service value, providing insights for refined implementation methods and future adjustments. It found that while ecological compensation has promoted growth in ecosystem service values, there is a need for more comprehensive and balanced development.

How can multiscenario flow paths of water supply services be simulated? A supply-flow-demand model of ecosystem services across a typical basin in China

Dongjie Guan et al.

Summary: This research focused on the Yangtze River Basin to evaluate the spatial-temporal changes in water supply services. A supply-flow-demand model was constructed to quantify the flow of water supply services. The results showed a decreasing trend in water supply services from 2010 to 2020. The flow pass-through regions accounted for the highest proportion, at 52.94%.

Study on Influencing Factors and Simulation of Watershed Ecological Compensation Based on Evolutionary Game

Quanxi Wang et al.

Summary: This paper constructs an evolutionary game model to analyze the ecological compensation between Henan and Shaanxi in the Yellow River Basin. The research demonstrates the necessity of combining vertical and horizontal ecological compensation and provides insights on the optimal strategies influenced by initial willingness and central government's regulatory power. The study also highlights the importance of downstream paying upstream ecological compensation and emphasizes the need for an effective punishment strategy by the central government.

Inter-regional ecological compensation in the Yellow River Basin based on the value of ecosystem services

Zixuan Zhou et al.

Summary: This study assesses the value of ecosystem services in the Yellow River Basin by evaluating land-use changes from 2010 to 2020. The findings show that the total value of ecosystem services increased during this period and grasslands had the highest value. The priority of ecological compensation is positively correlated with the value of ecosystem services and negatively correlated with the economic development level.

Framework of basin eco-compensation standard valuation for cross-regional water supply - A case study in northern China

Zhou Fang et al.

Summary: This study proposed a BEC valuation method developed by combining gross ecosystem product (GEP) accounting with total cost accounting, which was applied to a cross-regional water transfer project. The results revealed that water-related ecosystem services (WESs) received a minor proportion of the compensation, and suggested implementing multi-agent joint bargaining, a BEC fund, and hydrological monitoring to improve BEC valuations.

How to optimize ecological compensation to alleviate environmental injustice in different cities in the Yellow River Basin? A case of integrating ecosystem service supply, demand and flow

Tianlin Zhai et al.

Summary: Ecosystem services have external effects, leading to environmental injustice due to the variation in delivery amongst different regions. Implementation of ecological compensation can address this issue. The study used the InVEST model to assess carbon sequestration in the Yellow River Basin and proposed a comparative ecological radiation force to quantify ecosystem service flow. The results showed a spatial mismatch in supply and demand, with some regions having a surplus of carbon sequestration.

Self-Organization, Entropy Generation Rate, and Boundary Defects: A Control Volume Approach

Jainagesh A. Sekhar

Summary: Self-organization leading to the emergence of optimized new patterns is connected to entropy generation and export. The new pattern may involve abrupt changes in pattern volume and displays different types of boundary defects crucial for stabilizing the new order. There is no known principle for selecting pathways in self-organization, and the maximum entropy production rate (MEPR) principle shows potential for predictive capabilities in self-organization processes.

How to promote the public participation in eco-compensation in transboundary river basins: A case from Planned Behavior perspective

Gen Li et al.

Summary: Ecological compensation is widely used in transboundary river basin management and public participation is crucial for its efficiency and efficacy. Motivating public participation in ecocompensation in trans-boundary basins remains a challenge. Public intention and motivation are key factors influencing public participation in ecological compensation.
