Seismic performance of square concrete-filled steel tubular columns with diagonal binding ribs

Zheng Zhou et al.

Summary: Testing of four diagonal ribs stiffened SCFST columns under combined axial compression and cyclic lateral load showed that the presence of holes had a slight effect on performance, while the width-to-thickness ratio and axial load ratio significantly influenced cyclic behavior. Verification of an ABAQUS model demonstrated the validity of the plastic stress distribution method for computing interaction strength of short diagonal ribs stiffened SCFST columns across a range of parameters.

Cyclic-shear behavior of square thin-walled concrete-filled steel tubular columns with diagonal ribs

Zheng Zhou et al.

Summary: Through experimental testing and numerical modeling, it has been found that stiffeners in the form of diagonal ribs can improve the cyclic-shear behavior of square thin-walled CFST columns, resulting in higher load capacity, better ductility, and larger energy dissipation.

Deformation Capacity of RC Beam-Column Joints Strengthened with Ferrocement

M. Zardan Araby et al.

Summary: Beam-column joints constructed according to the pre-seismic building code are prone to brittle shear failure. This study designed a brittle beam-column joint with non-seismic building code and strengthened it using ferrocement. The experimental results showed that strengthening with ferrocement improves the performance of the beam-column joint, but does not significantly enhance the load carrying capacity.

Influence of the column-to-beam flexural strength ratio on the failure mode of beam-column connections in RC frames

Gong Maosheng et al.

Summary: The study investigates the failure modes of RC frames with different CBFSRs and finds that the effect of CBFSR on the SCWB failure mode depends on the beam-column connection type and seismic intensity. Recommended CBFSRs are proposed for achieving the designed SCWB failure mode for different types of connections in RC frames under different seismic intensities.

Modeling the lateral behavior of freeze-thaw damaged reinforced concrete columns including reinforcement slip and shear effects

Yixin Zhang et al.

Summary: This study focuses on modeling the lateral load-deformation response of reinforced concrete columns subjected to freeze-thaw cycles, considering the effects on flexure, reinforcement slip, and shear. The proposed column response model accurately simulates the cyclic behavior of columns experiencing freeze-thaw cycles, incorporating non-uniform reduction in concrete strength and bond deterioration between steel and concrete.
