Fragility analysis of high-span aqueduct structure under near-fault and far-field ground motions

Sherong Zhang et al.

Summary: This study quantitatively evaluates the fragility of a high-span aqueduct system under near-fault pulse-type (NFP) and far-field (FF) ground motions. The results indicate that the fragility probability of the aqueduct bearings is significantly larger than that of the trough pier and should be considered in seismic design. In addition, the fragility probability curve of a single aqueduct component overestimates its seismic performance. The fragility probability of a high-span aqueduct system under NFP ground motions is significantly greater than that under FF ground motions.

Fragility assessment of non-ductile RC frame buildings exposed to combined ground shaking and soil liquefaction considering SSI

Stella Karafagka et al.

Summary: The study proposes a methodology for fragility assessment of non-ductile reinforced concrete moment-resisting frame buildings exposed to combined ground shaking and soil liquefaction, considering soil-structure interaction. The research shows that the height of buildings significantly affects their vulnerability to combined ground shaking and soil liquefaction, with low-rise buildings suffering more damages compared to mid- and high-rise ones. High-rise buildings, even susceptible to liquefaction, only experience sinking or tilting without severe structural damages.
