Potential Improvement in Rating Factors of Concrete T-Beam Bridges through Refined Analysis: Evaluation of Distribution Factors

Abdou K. Ndong et al.

Summary: This study explores the potential use of refined analysis methods to increase load ratings of concrete T-beam bridges by reducing live-load distribution factors. Finite-element models of 25 in-service bridges were developed to analyze the effects of different vehicle loadings, including special hauling vehicles. The study suggests that refined analysis can improve rating factors for special hauling vehicles, but may result in larger shear distribution factors.

Field Testing and Refined Load Rating of a Load-Posted Continuous Steel Girder Bridge

Matthew Stieglitz et al.

Summary: This study investigates the load rating of a continuous steel plate girder bridge superstructure through refined modeling and load testing. The results suggest that the load rating factors for this bridge type are significantly higher than the currently posted limits, indicating that the posting could be removed.

Theoretical and computational simulation of the effect of the number of intermediate diaphragms on the live load distribution factors and structural response of a precast girder bridge

Jose Miguel Parra Benitez et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of intermediate diaphragms (ID) on load distribution and girder response in simply supported bridges. The results reveal that IDs have a significant impact on the load distribution and deflection of interior girders, and increasing the number of IDs can reduce shear and torque.

Bridge Rating for Vehicles with Grandfather Provisions

Sylwia Stawska et al.

Summary: This study aims to determine if the current live load factors provide sufficient safety for exempted vehicles, as there are no provisions for overloaded vehicles under grandfather provisions. A reliability-based analysis is used to propose state-specific live load factors for bridge rating. Linear scaling of existing bridge records can be utilized to determine ratings for agricultural vehicles.
