Impacts of future climate and land cover changes on landslide susceptibility: regional scale modelling in the Val d'Aran region (Pyrenees, Spain)

Marcel Hurlimann et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the impacts of future climate and land use changes on landslides susceptibility in the Val d'Aran region using climate models and land use software. The results indicated significant environmental changes in the future, with increased rainfall and changes in land cover. However, the overall stability condition is expected to improve due to the combined effects of land use changes outweighing the negative influence of rainfall changes.

FSLAM: A QGIS plugin for fast regional susceptibility assessment of rainfall-induced landslides

Zizheng Guo et al.

Summary: In this study, we designed and developed a Python QGIS plugin called FSLAM for assessing the susceptibility of shallow slope failures triggered by rainfall in mountainous areas. The plugin integrates a simplified hydrological model and a geotechnical model, and outputs raster maps to describe the hydrological and stability conditions.

Limit equilibrium method-based 3D slope stability analysis for wide area considering influence of rainfall

Kenta Tozato et al.

Summary: This study proposes a method for evaluating the risks of slope failure induced by heavy rain. The method combines infiltration analysis, surface flow analysis, and slope stability analysis using a three-dimensional limit equilibrium method. It is found that this method can roughly represent actual slope failure and the use of high-resolution terrain data obtained from UAVs is important in evaluating micro-topography stability.

An investigation of the combined effect of rainfall and road cut on landsliding

Samprada Pradhan et al.

Summary: The non-engineered hillslope excavation in the mountainous terrain of Nepal exacerbates the risk of shallow rainfall-induced landslides. A study found that steep road cuts promote slope failure by allowing larger displacements, increasing the likelihood of landslides.

Regional-scale simulation of flowslide triggering in stratified deposits

Xiang Li et al.

Summary: This paper discusses the performance of a spatially-distributed model aimed at capturing distinct landslide triggering mechanisms in layered deposits. The model relies on simultaneous computation of multiple factors of safety, solving pore pressure transients, and considering vertical heterogeneity, while dramatically reducing computational cost. The model shows good performance in analyzing documented shallow landslides in Campania (Italy) and municipalities with different representative stratigraphic settings.

Spatiotemporal variations of fatal landslides in Turkey

Tolga Gorum et al.

Summary: Landslides are devastating geohazards causing extensive socio-economic and environmental damages. This study in Turkey reveals an increasing dominance of human activities in fatal landslide rates, with distinct hotspot zones in the Eastern Black Sea and Marmara Region. The research also suggests potential impacts of economic crisis and political stability on fatal landslide trends.

Prediction of spatiotemporal stability and rainfall threshold of shallow landslides using the TRIGRS and Scoops3D models

Summary: This study combined different models to evaluate the stability of landslides and found that the 3D model has a higher success rate in predicting landslides compared to the 1D model. Additionally, a new rainfall threshold analysis method was proposed, which can provide important reference for disaster early warning and prediction.

Observations on soil-atmosphere interactions after long-term monitoring at two sample sites subjected to shallow landslides

M. Bordoni et al.

Summary: Soil-atmosphere interaction is studied through detailed field measurements at two test sites in Northern Italy, comparing the behavior of two different soils under similar meteorological events. Seasonal fluctuations of unsaturated soil hydraulic properties are identified based on long-term monitoring data, with a focus on hysteretic cycles of water content with respect to soil water potential.

Summary: The Fast Shallow Landslide Assessment Model (FSLAM) is able to calculate rainfall-induced landslide probability maps for large areas in a short amount of time. By incorporating soil properties, vegetation, elevation, and rainfall information, the model can significantly improve prediction accuracy.
