Meshfree Digital Image Correlation Using Element Free Galerkin Method: Theory, Algorithm and Validation

B. Chen et al.

Summary: A new meshfree digital image correlation (MF-DIC) method using element free Galerkin method (EFGM) is proposed for deformation measurement. It provides better spatial resolution and measurement resolution compared to traditional methods, and offers continuous displacement and strain fields directly from scattered nodes without relying on subsets or elements. Experimental results show excellent performance in displacement and strain measurements.

Mechanical behavior of all-lignocellulose composites-Comparing micro- and nanoscale fibers using strain field data and FEM updating

Erik Jungstedt et al.

Summary: The random-in-plane microfibrillated lignocellulose (MFLC) composites exhibited better mechanical properties than wood fiber (WF) composites due to stronger strain-hardening from lower porosity and better interfibrillar adhesion. Axially oriented wood fiber composites (O-WF) achieved comparable mechanical properties to random MFLC, with lower values for eco-indicators. The finite element model updating method successfully determined all 4 independent elastic constants from one 45 degrees off-axis experiment, but additional experiments were required for the plasticity model.
