Plastic deformation and ductile fracture of L907A ship steel at increasing strain rate and temperature

Xue Li et al.

Summary: A comprehensive study was conducted to characterize the plastic deformation and ductile fracture behaviors of L907A low-alloy ship steel. The effects of strain rate and thermal softening were taken into consideration. Constitutive models were proposed and calibrated using dynamic and quasi-static tensile tests. The models were numerically implemented and validated against experimental results of ballistic impacts, showing good agreement.

A new ductile failure criterion with stress triaxiality and Lode dependence

Xue Yang et al.

Summary: In this paper, the effects of three stress invariants on material failure are studied, and a new ductile failure criterion that considers the influence of stress triaxiality and normalized third invariant of deviatoric stress tensor is proposed. The new criterion is calibrated with test results on different materials, and it demonstrates high accuracy in predicting failure loci. Comparisons with other criteria show that the proposed criterion has a broader application range for the studied materials.

Wang Dou et al.

Summary: This study comprehensively investigates the relationship between material ductility and stress state. By designing special specimens and using a hybrid experimental-numerical method, the study reveals different micromechanisms dominating the failure process under various stress states. A new ductile fracture model is proposed, which can accurately predict the fracture strain.

Comparative fracture prediction study for two materials under a wide range of stress states using seven uncoupled models

Mariem Nouira et al.

Summary: The prediction of ductile failure is vital for metal forming industries, and uncoupled fracture models have been developed and expanded to improve their predictive abilities. However, without assessing their ability to accurately predict failure, it is challenging to determine the most suitable model for different loading conditions. This study revisits seven uncoupled fracture models and examines the impact of test types and quantities used for calibration on their predictive abilities.

A new ductile fracture model for Q460C high-strength structural steel under monotonic loading: Experimental and numerical investigation

Aiguo Chen et al.

Summary: Tensile fracture static tests were conducted on nine specimens of Chinese Q460C high-strength structural steel to study its ductile fracture behavior. A new model considering stress triaxiality and Lode angle was proposed to predict the ductile fracture of Q460C HSS. The model incorporated a stress softening criterion for better fracture propagation simulation. The simulation results showed good agreement with the experimental results.

Summary: Experimental and numerical investigations were conducted to study ductile fracture in A36 steel under various stress states. Correlations between ductility and stress states were identified using different DF models, and the experimental results of AISI 1045 steel were revisited, leading to the conclusion that an appropriate model should have flexible stress triaxiality and Lode parameter dependence as well as asymmetry in relation to the plane of L = 0.

A stress-weighted ductile fracture model for steel subjected to Ultra Low Cycle Fatigue

Christopher Smith et al.

Summary: The proposed Stress Weighted Ductile Fracture Model (SWDFM) accurately predicts the initiation of ductile fracture due to Ultra-Low Cycle Fatigue (ULCF) over a wide range of stress states and loading histories, representing the micro-mechanical mechanisms of ULCF well. It broadens the scope of ULCF models by considering a broader range of multi-axial stress and strain states encountered in steel structures.

Fracture investigation of different welded steel beam-column connections under three-point bending test

Ibrahim Yelek et al.

Summary: Steel structures are often preferred in construction for their lightweight and durability. However, challenges arise in connecting steel structures due to mechanical imperfections caused by secondary processes such as welding. This study examined the performance of different column-beam connections welded using HEB120 profile under extreme loads, gathering data through tests and fractographic examination.Finite element analysis was also conducted to investigate fracture behavior, with materials modeled for elasto-plastic behavior and stress-strain curves extended using Swift-Voce hardening law.
