Faulty feeder detection for single phase-to-ground faults in distribution networks based on patch-to-patch CNN and feeder-to-feeder LSTM

Jiawei Yuan et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a fault feeder detection method based on a hybrid model of convolutional neural network (CNN) and long short-term memory (LSTM) neural network, which comprehensively explores spatial-temporal information. Deep spatial features are extracted using CNN and further processed by LSTM network. In addition, the proposed patch-to-patch CNN (PToP CNN) recognizes current waveforms on the patch scale to maintain the temporal dependencies of the extracted spatial features. Furthermore, a feeder-to-feeder LSTM (FToF LSTM) network is established to learn and compare spatial-temporal correlations between feeders. The joint PToP-CNN and FToF-LSTM achieve collaborative superiority in mining fault features in zero-sequence currents. The efficiency of the proposed method is demonstrated through real-time detection on the embedded device NVIDIA Jetson AGX Xavier.
