Abdulvahap Cakmak et al.

Summary: This experimental research investigates the effects of adding ethyl acetate, a new and renewable oxygenated fuel, to gasoline on engine performance and exhaust emissions. Estimation of exergy-based sustainability index and performance evaluation of a novel intercooled hybrid gas turbine system

Abhinav Anand Sinha et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a new sustainability index and modified exergy indicators for traditional gas turbines and solid oxide fuel cell-integrated gas turbine (SOFC-GT) hybrid power cycles. The performance of SOFC integration with intercooled gas turbine (Ic-GT) cycle is examined using numerical modeling and sustainability analysis. A comparison based on energy-exergy analysis shows that the Ic-SOFC-RGT configuration outperforms Ic-GT and Ic-RGT in terms of efficiency and sustainability. Additionally, modified exergy-based parameters are used to identify the most affected component in the three configurations.

The investigation of environmental behaviors by energy and exergy analyses using gasoline/ethanol fuel blends

Battal Dogan et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the use of ethanol/gasoline fuel blends in a single-cylinder spark-ignition engine through energy, exergy, exergoeconomic, and exergoenvironmental analysis. Experimental studies were conducted using different ratios of ethanol obtained from agricultural products added to gasoline as test fuels. The results showed that the highest efficiencies were achieved at 2500 rpm for all fuels, and increasing the ethanol ratio in fuel blends resulted in increased economic and environmental costs. It is considered appropriate to have an ethanol ratio between 30 and 40% in fuel blends for optimal economy and environmental impact.

Research on the usability of various oxygenated fuel additives in a spark-ignition engine considering thermodynamic and economic analyses

Murat Kadir Yesilyurt et al.

Summary: Thermodynamic and economic analyses were conducted on binary fuel blends (E15, EA15, M15, MA15, and T15) in a spark-ignition engine using commercial gasoline and oxygenated fuel additives. Performance and emission tests were carried out at various engine loads. Results showed that increasing engine load led to higher exergy losses and decreased unit cost of engine power exergy values. The pump price of each fuel blend affected the fuel cost rate. Exergy efficiency in fuel blends increased with increasing engine load, with the highest efficiency observed for gasoline fuel at 100% engine load. The T15 blend exhibited better energetic and exergetic performance compared to other binary blends.

Summary: The increase in the number of vehicles has resulted in increased emissions of polluting gases. This study investigated the effect of ethanol content on a spark-ignition engine and found that hydrous ethanol had the highest energy efficiency at 1500rpm. The environmental impact rate of pollutant formation and the exergy efficiency had a greater impact on the environment than the environmental impact rate of fuel. The combined evaluation of exergoenvironmental factor and relative difference in environmental impact helped identify optimization priorities and areas for improvement.
