I take the green one: The choice of regional green electricity contracts in the light of regional and environmental identity

Larissa Fait et al.

Summary: This study investigates the choice of electricity contracts and finds that environmental and regional identity significantly influence the willingness to pay for regional and green electricity. Additionally, it is found that about 40% of individuals choose the greenest electricity mix when selecting an electricity contract. The use of decision heuristics based on regional contract characteristics is less frequent but increases when regional identity is salient.

Dynamic electricity tariffs: Designing reasonable pricing schemes for private households

Julia Freier et al.

Summary: Dynamic electricity tariffs have several advantages, including balancing supply and demand, supporting renewable energy integration, reducing CO2 emissions, and increasing overall economic efficiency. This study focuses on designing dynamic tariffs that can overcome adoption barriers by creating cost savings. Taking into account households' heterogeneity, the study compares different price signals and finds that EEX spot market prices are inferior to forecasted renewable energy production and residual load in terms of cost savings and emission reductions. The study also highlights the importance of analyzing the average short-term price spread in tariff design.

Summary: This paper empirically investigates the correlation between environmental values and economic preferences, finding strong connections between altruism and positive reciprocity with NEP scales, and significant negative correlations between trust and negative reciprocity. Risk and time preferences show no significant correlation with NEP scales.

Empower the Consumer! Energy-related Financial Literacy and its Implications for Economic Decision Making

Julia Blasch et al.

Summary: The untapped energy savings potential in the residential sector could lead to substantial welfare losses. Limited energy-specific knowledge and financial literacy play important roles in the adoption of energy-efficient durable goods. Therefore, promoting energy-specific financial education programs and tools can help increase the adoption of energy-efficient durable goods.

Heterogeneous preferences and investments in energy saving measures

Urs Fischbacher et al.

Summary: We investigate the impact of risk, time, environmental, and social preferences on single-family homeowners' investments in energy efficiency. Homeowners who are more risk taking are more likely to renovate their house, and those with pro-environmental and future-oriented attitudes tend to live in more energy-efficient homes. Pro-social preferences are also positively related to the energy quality of renovated houses.
