Kinetic Analysis of CO2 Hydrogenation to Long-Chain Hydrocarbons on a Supported Iron Catalyst

Lucas Bruebach et al.

Summary: Studies have carefully investigated the kinetics of an alumina supported iron catalyst under specific conditions and derived new kinetic expressions to better reproduce experimental data. The H-assisted CO2 and H-assisted CO dissociation mechanisms have been identified based on recent mechanistic investigations.

Life-Cycle Assessment of Power-to-Liquid Kerosene Produced from Renewable Electricity and CO2 from Direct Air Capture in Germany

Matteo Micheli et al.

Summary: Decarbonization of the aviation sector is crucial for achieving global climate targets. This study quantified the environmental impacts of Power-to-Liquid kerosene produced from electricity and carbon dioxide, and found that the impacts varied across different production pathways. The results suggest that PtL-kerosene produced with renewable energy could play an important role in decarbonizing the aviation sector.

Optimization of pressure swing adsorption for hydrogen purification based on Box-Behnken design method

Nannan Zhang et al.

Summary: Pressure swing adsorption (PSA) is an important technology for gas separation and purification. A dynamic model for a layered adsorption bed packed with activated carbon and zeolite 5A was developed and validated, with optimization parameters of adsorption time, pressure equalization time, and P/F ratio studied using the Box-Behnken design method. The study showed that as adsorption time increased, purity decreased while recovery and productivity increased, highlighting the need for parameter optimization in PSA processes.

Catalytic and Kinetic Study of the CO2 Hydrogenation Reaction over a Fe-K/Al2O3 Catalyst toward Liquid and Gaseous Hydrocarbon Production

Carlotta Panzone et al.

Summary: Experimental study on CO2 hydrogenation over a Fe-K/Al2O3 catalyst showed that the H-2/CO2 inlet molar ratio significantly affects the catalyst activity and selectivity, with an excess of H-2 leading to increased CO2 conversion and reduced CO formation. A semiempirical macrokinetic model was developed to accurately predict the experimental data within an error of 20% and a MARR lower than 5%.

Potential and risks of hydrogen-based e-fuels in climate change mitigation

Falko Ueckerdt et al.

Summary: E-fuels have the potential to replace fossil fuels, but there are risks and challenges involved. While large-scale deployment may reduce costs, the sustainability and availability of E-fuels remain uncertain. Therefore, policies should cautiously support the development of E-fuels while also considering their risks.

Identifying Commercial Opportunities for the Reverse Water Gas Shift Reaction

R. Matthew Bown et al.

Summary: The reverse water gas shift (RWGS) reaction is a promising technology for introducing carbon dioxide into the chemical industry through syngas production. Research has shown that low-cost and low-carbon sources of hydrogen will be crucial for enabling economic feasibility of RWGS processes.
