Application and analysis of flip mechanism in the melting process of a triplex-tube latent heat energy storage unit

Fangfei Li et al.

Summary: In this study, the flip mechanism is applied to improve the characteristics of uneven melting in the melting process of the triplex-tube latent heat energy storage unit. Numerical simulation is used and verified by experimental data. The results show that a single flip can significantly improve the melting performance of the unit under different dimensionless times. However, the flip has a negative effect on the total heat absorption in one melting cycle. The addition of flip effectively reduces the negative influence of the hard-to-melt zone during the melting process.

A Quasi-Steady State Model of a Solar Parabolic Dish Micro Gas Turbine Demonstration Plant

Michela Lanchi et al.

Summary: In the OMSoP project, a solar power system based on the integration of solar dish technology and micro gas turbines was developed. Through simulation and optimization, it was found that the system had limitations in power output under design conditions, but significant improvements could be achieved by upgrading the solar dish and other components.

Thermo-mechanical analysis of a porous volumetric solar receiver subjected to concentrated solar radiation

Sonika Sharma et al.

Summary: This study investigates the thermal and mechanical performance of a typical porous Silicon Carbide volumetric receiver with foam structure using a coupled thermo-mechanical model. It analyzes the effects of various geometric, structural, and design parameters on the absorber's performance and identifies failure-prone regions. The study concludes that higher porosities, pore sizes, and inlet velocities result in lesser thermal stresses, while the uniformity of incident radiation flux improves the absorber's performance.
