Design and Optimization of Fractional Order PID Controller to Enhance Energy Storage System Contribution for Damping Low-Frequency Oscillation in Power Systems Integrated with High Penetration of Renewable Sources

Summary: This paper proposes adding a controller to the energy storage system (ESS) to enhance its contribution to damping low-frequency oscillation (LFO) in power systems integrated with different types of renewable energy sources (RES). Superconducting magnetic energy storage (SMES) is suggested as an ESS, and the PID and FOPID controllers are used with SMES. The optimal values for the controllers are obtained using particle swarm optimization (PSO). The results show that the proposed controller with SMES performs superiorly in both the time domain and by eigenvalues analysis.

A fractional order PID controller using MACOA for indoor temperature in air-conditioning room

Numerical simulation results show that the proposed algorithm is reliable and improves the control quality of indoor temperature significantly.
