Redox-active polynaphthalimides as versatile electrode materials for high-voltage, high-rate and long-cycle-life organic Li-ion batteries

Febri Baskoro et al.

Summary: Multifunctional energy-storage devices have great potential in reducing size and volume, improving storage capacity, and decreasing material and fabrication costs. This research presents three new triphenylamine-based polynaphthalimides (TPA-PNIs) that can serve as cathodes, anodes, and binders in lithium-ion batteries simultaneously. These TPA-PNI electrodes demonstrate high specific capacity, stable cycling performance, and excellent rate capability, making them among the best polymer-based electrodes reported. Detailed mechanistic studies and structural design of these ambipolar TPA-PNI electrodes could provide valuable insights and pave the way for the development of high-performance multifunctional energy-storage systems.

Summary: High-Entropy Oxides (HEOs) are a promising type of anode materials for lithium ion batteries (LIBs) due to their stable crystal structure and high theoretical capacity. In this study, (FeCoNiCrMn)3O-4 HEO was successfully prepared and showed excellent cycle stability and high reversible capacity. The special crystal structure with a narrow band gap and the three-dimensional spinel structure provide a pathway for ion transport, contributing to the long-term stability and high performance of HEOs as anode materials for LIBs.

Superlithiation Performance of Covalent Triazine Frameworks as Anodes in Lithium-Ion Batteries

Fei Jiang et al.

Summary: In this study, covalent triazine frameworks (CTFs-1) were synthesized with vertical pores and layered spaces for efficient Li+ transfer, showing superlithiation property with high specific capacities and stable cycling performance at high current densities. The ultrahigh capacity of CTFs-1-400 is mainly attributed to the capacitance of micropores and the redox capacity of benzene and triazine rings. Additionally, CTFs-1-400 exhibits almost no capacity fading for 1000 cycles at 1 A g(-1).

Investigation of Capacity Increase in Schiff-Base Networks as the Organic Anode for Lithium-Ion Batteries

Zhi Zhang et al.

Summary: Schiff-base polymers are synthesized using melamine as raw material through the solvothermal method and tested as anode materials for lithium-ion batteries. The capacity of the battery increases at different degrees after cycling at different current densities, due to the realization of superlithiation with the benzene ring as the lithium storage center in the polymer. The study on the interaction between material structure and electrochemical performance explores the lithium storage mechanism of the triazine Schiff-base polymer, providing guidance for the development of high-performance organic cathode materials for lithium-ion batteries.

Bryony T. McAllister et al.

Summary: Research shows that organic anodes have the potential to replace traditional graphite anodes due to their high capacity and safety, especially superlithiated organic anodes with capacities exceeding 1500 mA h g(-1). A new pyrene-fused azaacene polymer that undergoes superlithiation and exhibits continuous activation process is proposed to achieve high capacity. In addition, it is found that there is a change in electrode structure during the activation process, but the superlithiated electrode is able to maintain the same capacity.
