Effects of oxygen vacancy concentration and sintering temperature on rechargeable Li-ion storage performance of titanium niobate anode materials

Cheng-Kuan Kuo et al.

Summary: In this study, TiNb2O7 (TNO) was synthesized as anode materials for Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) through a simple solvothermal method and subsequent high temperature sintering process. The surface morphology and oxygen vacancy content of TNO at different sintering temperatures were investigated. The optimized TNO-800 electrode exhibited excellent rate capability and the highest reversible capacity, attributed to its micro-spherical structure and sufficient oxygen vacancies. The presence of oxygen vacancies and the porous structure with high specific surface area played important roles in the electrochemical performance of TNO anode materials for LIBs.

Reaction pathways for the HDO of guaiacol over supported Pd catalysts: Effect of support type in the deoxygenation of hydroxyl and methoxy groups

Camila A. Teles et al.

Summary: The effect of support type on the removal of oxygenated functional groups during hydrodeoxygenation of guaiacol was investigated. Three main reaction pathways were proposed, with demethoxylation being the dominant pathway. The presence of certain support types led to further conversion of phenol, while others resulted in the detection of benzene. The strong adsorption of hydroxyl groups may inhibit the deoxygenation rates.

Upgrading biomass-derived pyrolysis bio-oil to bio-jet fuel through catalytic cracking and hydrodeoxygenation: A review of recent progress

Pooya Lahijani et al.

Summary: Biomass-to-liquid thermochemical routes, such as fast pyrolysis, are promising methods for converting waste biomass into sustainable hydrocarbon fuels. However, the bio-oil derived from pyrolysis has poor quality and requires extensive upgrading before it can be used as a jet fuel. Catalytic cracking and hydrodeoxygenation are the most promising approaches for upgrading bio-oil to bio-jet fuel. Further research is needed to understand the mechanistic aspects of raw bio-oil upgrading.

Bimetallic Niobium-Based Catalysts Supported on SBA-15 for Hydrodeoxygenation of Anisole

Daniel Ballesteros-Plata et al.

Summary: The addition of iron, cobalt, or nickel to a prepared niobium-supported catalyst using mesoporous silica SBA-15 as a support significantly influenced the hydrodeoxygenation (HDO) reaction of anisole. Nickel incorporation showed the highest anisole conversion and selectivity to deoxygenated products, followed by cobalt and iron. The superior performance of NiNb/SBA-15 was associated with its lower acidity, higher Nb/Si surface exposure, NbO2/Nb2O5 ratio, and better interaction between nickel and niobium species.

Influence of Nb2O5 crystal structure on photocatalytic efficiency

Catia L. Ucker et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated the use of crystalline Nb2O5 powders with different phases as photocatalysts for Rhodamine B degradation, showing that changes in crystalline structure and surface area due to heat treatment temperature can impact the photocatalytic activity. Different phases of Nb2O5 resulted in varying degrees of RhB degradation, with pseudohexagonal Nb2O5 achieving a higher degradation rate compared to orthorhombic Nb2O5. Analysis methods including high-performance liquid chromatography, mass spectrometry, and total organic content analysis were used to identify RhB degradation products and propose potential degradation pathways.

Summary: In this study, the structural, excitonic, and electronic properties of Nb2O5 with five different crystal structures were investigated using first-principles density functional theory. It was found that the exciton binding energy is closely related to the crystal structure and is influenced by the electron-hole Coulomb interaction and dielectric shielding ability. The position of atoms, the shape of energy bands, and the strength of bonds were identified as factors contributing to the differences in exciton binding energy.
