Experimental investigation of the effects of preheating temperature on low-temperature cold start performance, emissions and energy conversion of diesel-electric hybrid

Peng Wang et al.

Summary: Low-temperature starting difficulty in conventional diesel engines is caused by low compression end temperatures, high heat loss, and large resistance torque. Preheating measures, such as intake air preheating and coolant preheating, can significantly improve cold-start performance. This study experimentally investigated the effects of different preheating temperatures on the performance, emissions, energy consumption, and conversion efficiency of a diesel-electric hybrid vehicle, and provided valuable information for optimizing the preheating strategy and low-temperature thermal management.

Experimental study of wall-impinging diesel spray ignition and combustion characteristics under critical conditions

Dongfang Wang et al.

Summary: The study found that spray penetration length, cone angle, spread radius, and vapor-phase floatation height were not sensitive to ambient temperature, but liquid-phase floatation height decreased with increasing ambient temperature. Ignition delay time decreased with increasing ambient temperature, and ignition positions were near the wall surface and away from the nozzle axis. Additionally, the distance between ignition position and nozzle axis, as well as the distance between ignition position and wall, decreased with increasing ambient temperature.

Research on transmission and coupling characteristics of multi-frequency pressure fluctuation of high pressure common rail fuel system

Yunpeng Wei et al.

Summary: In this study, a prediction model of the high-pressure common rail system was established to analyze the effects of common rail pressure, control pulse width, and engine speed on pressure fluctuations. The influence of different hydraulic components on pressure fluctuations was also analyzed using the hydraulic decoupling method. The results showed that fuel pump, rail, and injector have significant effects on the pressure fluctuations in the system.

Environment-adaptive method to control intake preheating for diesel engines at cold-start conditions

Yikai Li et al.

Summary: This study investigated the minimum intake preheating powers at different ambient temperatures and densities using optical experiments, engine bench tests, and thermodynamic theory. A map chart was established to show the relationship between intake preheating power, ambient temperature, and altitude. Results show that the minimum intake preheating power increases linearly as ambient temperature decreases at the speed of first injection and has different turning points with the change of altitude.

Aftertreatment Technologies for Diesel Engines: An Overview of the Combined Systems

Ferenc Martinovic et al.

Summary: Reducing emissions from diesel vehicles presents a challenging scientific and technological task, requiring complex catalytic systems such as SCR and LNT for NOx reduction, and DPF filters for soot removal. Integrated technologies like LNT-SCR and SCR-on-Filter are proposed for simultaneous NOx and soot abatement, aiming to overcome the drawbacks of individual devices.
