Enhancement of the diesel fuel characteristics by using nitrogen-doped multi-walled carbon nanotube additives

Ahmed I. EL-Seesy et al.

Summary: Nitrogen-doped multiwalled carbon nanotubes (N-doped MWCNTs) are effective catalysts that can improve diesel engine performance and reduce exhaust emissions. Adding N-doped MWCNTs to diesel fuel significantly enhances combustion behavior, engine performance, and exhaust emission analysis. It increases in-cylinder pressure and heat release rate, improves brake thermal efficiency, reduces brake specific fuel consumption, and significantly reduces NOx, soot, and CO formations in exhaust emissions compared to diesel and MWCNTs blends.

Life Cycle Greenhouse Gas Emissions of Biodiesel and Renewable Diesel Production in the United States

Hui Xu et al.

Summary: This study analyzes the greenhouse gas emissions of biodiesel and renewable diesel production from different oilseed crops and waste fats. The results show that biodiesel and renewable diesel can achieve significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, with waste cooking oil and distillers corn oil showing the highest reduction potential. The lower emissions of biodiesel compared to renewable diesel in oilseed-based pathways is attributed to the less energy-intensive process of transesterification. However, using feedstocks with high free fatty acid content for biodiesel production may result in slightly higher emissions due to higher energy use for pretreatment.

Effects of dispersed multiwalled carbon nanotubes on the micro-explosion and combustion characteristics of 2-methylfuran - diesel mixture droplets

Bhavishkar Ittoo et al.

Summary: The addition of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) to MF-diesel blends at optimal levels improves the thermal efficiency and reduces NOx emissions during combustion. Nanofuels displayed increased micro-explosion intensity and reduced occurrences, attributed to the higher surface tension and viscosity. However, the combustion characteristics deteriorate at higher MWCNTs dosing, possibly due to nanoparticle agglomeration.

A numerical study on soot formation in methane-ethanol diffusion flames

Chia Chun Lee et al.

Summary: Numerical simulation was used to study the effect of ethanol addition on the soot formation characteristics of methane diffusion flame. The results showed that ethanol addition increased the soot volume fraction, but the relative enhancement of soot concentration decreased when the ethanol blending ratio exceeded 20%. Decoupling analysis revealed that ethanol had a dilution effect and primarily affected the flame temperature through its thermal effect. However, the chemical effect of ethanol still played a dominant role in increasing soot formation.
