Mohsen Aryan Nezhad et al.

Summary: The fuel cell technology is a new technology for large-scale power generation, and ensuring sufficient oxygen concentration in the cathode is crucial for preventing oxygen starvation and extending fuel cell life. This paper presents a robust airflow control synthesis based on μ and H control techniques for the proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC). The advanced controllers designed in this study regulate the oxygen concentration in the cathode to the desired value and can handle parameter variations and output current disturbances effectively. Simulation results demonstrate that the applied robust control methodologies are more effective compared to the PID controller tuned by the internal model control (IMC) method. The μ and H controllers efficiently provide the required airflow for the PEMFC and prevent oxygen starvation, with the μ controller performing better in maintaining the airflow at the desired value due to its structured uncertainty.
