Evaluation of the safe separation distances of hydrogen-blended natural gas pipelines in a jet fire scenario

Yuntao Li et al.

Summary: The desire for sustainable development has increased the use of hydrogen energy worldwide. Introducing hydrogen into existing natural gas pipelines is a cost-effective option for sustainable development. This study proposes a modified solid flame model to calculate the thermal radiation intensity of a hydrogen-blended natural gas jet fire, taking into consideration the failure consequences of hydrogen blending in pipelines. The modified model is found to be more accurate in predicting the thermal radiation intensity, and its application reveals the variations in safe separation distance with different hydrogen blending ratios, internal pressures, and pipe diameters.

Objective assessment of IPM denoising quality of φ-OTDR signal

Yunfei Chen et al.

Summary: The denoising quality of different image processing methods (IPMs), including non-local means (NLM), bilateral filter (BF), and wavelet denoise (WD), is traditionally evaluated using peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR), which is not objective due to uncertain noise level. This paper proposes an objective index, first cycle lag of autocorrelation function (FCL-ACF), to evaluate the denoising quality of IPMs. The FCL-ACF is validated using an assumed noisy image and further verified using a practical phi-OTDR signal. The evaluation results rank NLM, WD, and BF in terms of denoising quality from high to low. The proposed index helps objectively assess the denoising abilities of different IPMs for phi-OTDR vibration signal and other periodic signals.

Paula Nuno Ruano et al.

Summary: We propose a new strategy to achieve strong on-chip Brillouin gain in silicon waveguides by combining genetic algorithm optimization and periodic subwavelength structuration to simultaneously engineer photonic and phononic modes. The optimized waveguide geometry, obtained through a multi-physics genetic algorithm, predicts a remarkable Brillouin gain exceeding 3300 W-1m-1 for a mechanical frequency near 15 GHz.

Support vector regression optimized by black widow optimization algorithm combining with feature selection by MARS for mining blast vibration prediction

Guoquan Xu et al.

Summary: This study proposes a novel integration modeling method based on multivariate adaptive regression splines (MARS), support vector regression (SVR), and black widow optimization algorithm (BWOA) for predicting blast-induced ground vibration. The hybrid MARS-BWOA-SVR model outperforms other SVR models and identifies the relative importance of input variables. Distance, maximum charge per delay, integrity coefficient, and pre-split penetration ratio are the four main variables with higher relative importance. The results demonstrate that the hybrid MARS-BWOA-SVR model is a promising tool for blasting vibration prediction.

Summary: In this study, a nonlinear interpolation deep neural network (NIDNN) is introduced for interpolation and denoising, and a BFS extraction convolutional neural network (BFSECNN) based on depthwise separable convolution (DSC) is proposed to shorten the BFS extraction and training time. Simulation and experimental results show that the NIDNN and BFSECNN contribute to higher accuracy in BFS extraction and shorter data processing time. When used in combination, they reduce the BFS uncertainty by 5.3 MHz at the end of the optical fiber.

Hybrid Intrusion Detection using MapReduce based Black Widow Optimized Convolutional Long Short-Term Memory Neural Networks

P. Rajesh Kanna et al.

Summary: Recent advancements in information and communication technologies have led to a growing number of online systems and services. Therefore, it is necessary to design advanced and intelligent IDS models to ensure the trustworthiness of these systems. However, most existing IDS models based on traditional machine learning algorithms lack efficient feature selection and classification performance for new attacks. Additionally, they struggle with the recognition of known attacks and handling massive amounts of network traffic data. To address these issues, this paper presents an efficient hybrid IDS model built using the BWO-CONV-LSTM network. The model incorporates feature selection by the ABC algorithm and a hybrid deep learning classifier on a MapReduce framework. Performance evaluations demonstrate high intrusion detection accuracy and improved classification coefficients.

Extraction of Brillouin frequency shift from Brillouin gain spectrum in Brillouin distributed fiber sensors using K nearest neighbor algorithm

Huan Zheng et al.

Summary: This paper proposes and experimentally demonstrates a method for extracting Brillouin frequency shifts from Brillouin gain spectrum in Brillouin distributed fiber sensors using K nearest neighbor algorithm. The study shows that the performance of Brillouin frequency shift extraction degrades with the increase of frequency scanning step and the decrease of signal-to-noise ratio. The result suggests that the K nearest neighbor algorithm is a better way to extract the Brillouin frequency shift from the Brillouin gain spectrum.

Summary: In this study, we propose the use of the Block-Matching and 3D filtering (BM3D) algorithm to improve the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the Differential pulse-width pair Brillouin optical time-domain analyzer (DPP-BOTDA) without significant degradation of measurement accuracy and spatial resolution. Our analysis of each BM3D parameter's influence on denoising performance helps optimize the algorithm. Experimental results show that with the optimized BM3D, the SNR of DPP-BOTDA is significantly improved, while maintaining high measurement accuracy for temperature sensing.
