Horse Manure and Lignocellulosic Biomass Characterization as Methane Production Substrates

Amar Naji et al.

Summary: This paper explores the value of horse manure through anaerobic digestion. The study analyzes the components and characteristics of horse waste and examines their influence on biochemical methane potential. The results show that the composition and structure of the substrate significantly affect methane production, with wheat straw having the highest methane yield. The presence of wood chips dilutes methane production, resulting in lower yields compared to the bedding mixture without wood chips.

Anaerobic digestion and recycling of kitchen waste: a review

Qingchen Meng et al.

Summary: Around 1.6 billion tons of food are wasted annually, highlighting the need for advanced methods to recycle food waste into energy and materials. Anaerobic digestion of kitchen waste offers a solution by efficiently recovering energy and minimizing carbon emissions. However, factors such as dietary habits and seasonal diet variations can affect digestion stability and biogas production. The recycling of digestate is also a challenge that can be addressed by improving anaerobic digestion reactors.
