Scanning Ion Conductance Microscopy

Cheng Zhu et al.

Summary: Scanning ion conductance microscopy (SICM) is a versatile tool for studying interfaces in biology and materials science, particularly in biophysical and electrochemical measurements. The heart of SICM is a nanometer-scale electrolyte filled glass pipette serving as a scanning probe, allowing for recording of surface topography at micro- and nanoscale levels. Hybridizing SICM with coincident characterization techniques like optical microscopy and faradaic electrodes has made it a powerful tool for nanoscale chemical measurement in various applications.
