Nanorod NiMoO4@NiCo2S4 as an advanced electrode material for high- performance supercapacitors

Jinghua Lu et al.

Summary: Nickel-cobalt sulfides have good energy storage properties, but their application is hindered by poor stability. In this study, NiMoO4@NiCo2S4 composites were synthesized using a simple hydrothermal method combined with electrodeposition. The resulting composites exhibited a high specific capacity of 1282.6 C g-1 (2565.2 F g(-1)) at 2 A g(-1)), and an improved capacity retention of 84.7% after 5000 charge-discharge cycles compared to NiCo2S4 electrode. Density functional theory calculations showed increased density of states near the Fermi level and work function of 5.13 eV for NiMoO4@NiCo2S4, which enhanced its electrochemical performance. Furthermore, the NiMoO4@NiCo2S4//Activated carbon asymmetric supercapacitor achieved a high energy density of 75.3 Wh kg(-1) at 800 W kg(-1).

Performances of Co2+-Substituted NiMoO4 Nanorods in a Solid-State Hybrid Supercapacitor

Sengodan Prabhu et al.

Summary: Ni(1-alpha)Co(alpha)MoO4 (alpha = 0, 0.1, 0.3, and 0.5 M) nanorods were successfully synthesized via a hydrothermal method and proved to be excellent electrode materials for a hybrid supercapacitor. The electrochemical properties of the nanorods were found to be dependent on the Ni/Co ratio, as shown by various electrochemical techniques. Ni0.5Co0.5MoO4 (alpha = 0.5 M) exhibited a specific capacity (Qg) of 354 Cg-1@1 Ag-1 with a notable retention capacity of 92% after 8000 repeated cycles at 10 Ag-1. Ni0.5Co0.5MoO4 with a high surface area outperformed mono-metallic (NiMoO4) and bimetallic (Ni0.9Co0.1MoO4 and Ni0.7Co0.3MoO4) nanostructures. The hybrid supercapacitor (Ni0.5Co0.5MoO4//activated carbon) delivered a maximum Qcell of 53 Cg-1 at 1 Ag-1 with an energy density of 16.2 Wh kg-1 and a power density of 725 W kg-1.

Zongqi Li et al.

Summary: Hollow CoSe2 nanospheres wrapped with reduced graphene oxide (rGO) nanosheets are fabricated, which can reduce aggregation and maintain structural integrity. The wrapping of rGO nanosheets increases electrical conductivity and reduces the adsorption energy of OH- at the CoSe2/rGO interface. The hollow CoSe2/rGO nanocomposites exhibit specific capacities of 757C g-1 at 3 A/g and 552C g-1 at 20 A/g, with a capacity retention of 92% over 5000 cycles at 10 A/g.
