Cobalt-nickel bimetallic sulfide (NiS2/CoS2) based dual-carbon framework for super sodium ion storage

Qixiang Deng et al.

Summary: Designing hybrid metal sulfide-based anode materials is an effective method to enhance the performance of sodium-ion batteries (SIBs). However, the capacity of sulfide-based anodes decreases significantly due to volume expansion during charge/discharge processes. In this study, concaved NiS2@CoS2 nano-cubes (NCSC) were successfully prepared through chemical etching of Ni-Co coordination polymers (NiCoCP) precursor. The obtained NCSC anode materials exhibited a high specific sodium storage capacity of 848 mAh g-1 at 0.1 A g-1 and a stable cyclability of 572 mAh g-1 at 5 A g-1 after 830 cycles. This unique etching strategy provides a novel approach for the design and fabrication of high-performance anode materials for SIBs.

Ultrasmall NiS2 Nanocrystals Embedded in Ordered Macroporous Graphenic Carbon Matrix for Efficiently Pseudocapacitive Sodium Storage

Zhaozhao Liu et al.

Summary: Sodium-ion hybrid capacitor (SIHC) is a promising alternative for large-scale energy storage, but the imbalance between slow Na+ reaction kinetics and rapid ion adsorption/desorption is a challenge. This study proposes a high-rate-performance NiS2@OMGC anode material with NiS2 nanocrystals embedded in N, S-co-doped graphenic carbon. The material exhibits excellent rate performance and a SIHC device fabricated with it achieves ultrahigh energy and power densities, as well as a long lifespan. This research demonstrates the rational design of electrode materials for energy storage applications.
