Van der Waals Black Phosphorus/Bi10O6S9 Heterojunction Harvesting Ambient Electric Field Energy for Enhanced Photoelectrochemical Sense

Wei Zeng et al.

Summary: Ingenious use of ambient energy is demonstrated to enhance the performance of heterostructure-type devices. By utilizing the van der Waals effect, a type-II heterostructure based on a truncated pyramidal Si/Ag/WO3 substrate is formed by bonding two-dimensional black phosphorus with a unique Bi10O6S9 layer. The ambient electric field promotes the separation and transfer of excited electrons (and holes) and induces additional migration in the same direction. The photoelectrochemical response current is increased 1.6 times under the ambient electric field, with a retained stability of 81.06% after 6000 s. Moreover, a sensitive device for monitoring weak physiological electric fields with light irradiation is developed, showing potential in wearable applications.
