Summary: This study investigated the toxic effect and mechanism of aspirin in planarian. The results showed that aspirin strongly inhibited stem cell proliferation and caused retarded blastemas growth. Furthermore, the expression levels of stem cell markers and target genes were significantly decreased after treatment with aspirin. The study revealed that aspirin regulates planarian regeneration through the STAT3/SOX2/OCT4 signaling pathway.

Summary: Water treatment using sonoelectrochemical (SEC) degradation technique with a fluorine-doped tin oxide-barium titanate/nickel titanate (FTO-BaTiO3/NiTiO3) electrode was studied for the mineralization of zidovudine (ZVD) and paracetamol (PCM) in water. The results showed that the electrode exhibited high removal efficiency for these pharmaceutical contaminants and effectively degraded total organic carbon.

Summary: The sonoelectrochemical oxidation of sulfamethoxazole (SMX) in simulated and actual wastewater using different electrodes was investigated. The FTO/BaZr(0.1)Ti(0.9)O3 electrode exhibited the highest sonocurrent density response and the lowest charge transfer resistance, leading to efficient degradation of SMX. The piezo-polarizable effect of the FTO/BaZr(0.1)Ti(0.9)O3 electrode played a significant role in the generation of reactive species and the decomposition of pharmaceuticals.

The Piezo-Fenton synergistic effect of ferroelectric single-crystal BaTiO3 nanoparticles for high-efficiency catalytic pollutant degradation in aqueous solution

Summary: Nano-ferroelectric materials, specifically BaTiO3 nanoparticles, were found to exhibit excellent catalytic performance in dye degradation in wastewater through the piezo-Fenton synergistic effect. These results suggest that the piezo-Fenton synergistic effect could provide a new direction for the development of wastewater treatment under mechanical vibration.

Sonoelectrochemical degradation of ciprofloxacin in water on a Ti/BaTiO3 electrode

Summary: This study reports on the sonoelectrochemical degradation of ciprofloxacin in water using BaTiO3 nanoparticles supported on a titanium sheet electrode. The results show that the sonocurrent response of the electrode is improved and the impedance is lowered as the applied ultrasound power is increased. The application of the fabricated electrode for the degradation of ciprofloxacin in synthetic and real wastewater samples resulted in high degradation efficiency and organic carbon removal.

Occurrence and removal of pharmaceuticals in wastewater treatment plants
