Effect of surface charge gradient on the concentration difference driven energy conversion in nanochannel

Zheng Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, the influence of surface charge gradient on energy conversion behavior in nanochannel was investigated using nanofluid systems. The results showed that the negative surface charge gradient exhibited the best energy conversion performance. This high performance was mainly attributed to its excellent ion selectivity during the energy conversion process. These findings provide a general strategy for tuning nanofluid power generation and contribute to the understanding of the basic mechanism in fluidic energy devices.

Ion current rectification in asymmetric charged bilayer nanochannels

Zheng Liu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the ion current rectification (ICR) performance in bilayer nanochannels with non-uniform charge distribution. The researchers established an ion transport model using the coupled Poisson-Nernst-Planck (PNP) equations. Different configurations of bilayer nanochannels are compared, and it is found that surface charge is necessary for inducing ICR. The study also discusses the factors that can enhance ICR performance, such as regulating surface charge density, geometry parameters, and ion concentration.

Combined effect of surface charge and boundary slip on pressure-driven flow and convective heat transfer in nanochannels with overlapping electric double layer

Changzheng Li et al.

Summary: This study investigates the combined effect of concentration-dependent surface charge and surface charge-dependent boundary slip on flow and heat transfer in nanochannels with overlapping electric double layers (EDL). Results show that these factors significantly influence fluid behavior and thermal performance, with slip playing a crucial role in enhancing flow rate and heat transfer efficiency, especially in small nanochannels with thick EDL.

Unraveling the anomalous channel-length-dependent blue energy conversion using engineered alumina nanochannels

Yen-Shao Su et al.

Summary: Experimental results show that in sufficiently short nanochannels, the shorter the channel length, the smaller the generated power, contrary to past understanding. This anomaly is explained by a model tracing back to the ion concentration polarization effect, which significantly reduces effective salinity ratio and ion selectivity in the nanochannel.
