Simran Kaur Dhilllon et al.

Summary: This review summarizes the progress in carbon-based materials for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) catalysts and their utilization in microbial fuel cells (MFCs). Incorporating transition metals and heteroatoms into carbon can enhance the ORR activity and power generation in MFCs. Nitrogen-doped carbons have abundant active sites and superior conductivity, stability, and catalytic activity. Carbon-based catalysts and biomass-derived carbons show potential to replace expensive Pt catalysts for ORR.

Semi-Polycrystalline-Polyaniline Empowered Electrochemical Capacitor

Neelima Mahato et al.

Summary: We report on the formation and enhanced electrochemical capacitive behavior of semi-polycrystalline polyaniline synthesized by a modified surfactant-free chemical route. The material exhibits spindle-shaped morphology and well-defined crystallographic lattices. Characteristic chemical properties of polyaniline are recorded using Fourier transform infrared technology and laser Raman spectroscopies. The material shows features of surface-redox pseudocapacitance in cyclic voltammetry curves. With a scan rate of 10 mV s(-1), the specific capacitance of the material is calculated to be 551 F g(-1). Good stability is observed in cycle stability and coulombic efficiency over 3000 cycles at a current density of 12 A g(-1) (90.3% and 99.5%, respectively).

Electrochemical synthesis and characterization of self-doped aniline 2-sulfonic acid-modified flexible electrode with high areal capacitance and rate capability for supercapacitors

Sibel Yazar et al.

Summary: In this study, a composite of polypyrrole and aniline 2-sulfonic acid (CFt/PPy/ASA(0.03)) was synthesized on carbon felt under acid conditions. The addition of ASA resulted in the growth of homogeneous and large grains on the surface, leading to improved performance of the supercapacitor. The flexible electrode exhibited high specific areal capacitance and excellent rate capability, and the device showed good retention of capacitance performance even after 2500 cycles in aqueous electrolyte. Therefore, the CFt/PPy/ASA(0.03) electrode plays an important role in practical applications of flexible, wearable, and portable electronics.
