Modified model of AC flashover voltages of contaminated insulators with various shapes

Bingbing Dong et al.

Summary: The introduction of additional leakage distance is an important factor in improving the flashover voltage of contaminated insulators. Researchers have optimized insulator parameters, such as leakage distance, profile, diameter, and form factor, to enhance the flashover voltage. A mathematical model based on the Obenaus-Rizk model is established to accurately predict the flashover voltage for polluted insulators. The model is able to analyze the influence of contamination degree, arc constants, and geometric parameters on the critical flashover voltage and flashover voltage gradient, and it has been validated with experimental data.

Optimal design of high voltage composite insulators with grading rings in different configurations

Mohammed Khalil Hussain et al.

Summary: The paper proposes a method to find the optimal geometrical design of composite insulators for different voltage levels, which relies on achieving the lowest electric field strength. Five different optimization algorithms are applied and compared to find the optimal geometric design. The results show that the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm produces the best results in terms of minimizing the electric field strength.

Effects of dynamic deformation of pendant water drops on the electric field between hollow porcelain insulator sheds under extreme rainfall

Yijie Sun et al.

Summary: This study investigates the spatial and temporal variation of electric fields between hollow porcelain insulator sheds affected by dynamic deformation of pendant water drops. The results show that the maximum electric field increases significantly after the breakup of the water drop, and its position alters accordingly. The influence of dimensionless numbers and factors on the electric field behavior is discussed in detail.
